When does hunger return?

answers to this question will vary

some people might regain their hunger at a very early part after WLS - while others might never have their hunger return.... or somewhere in the middle

in my case, the "honeymoon" was over at about 8 1/2 months

started to feel twinges of hunger - but i'm ok.

could be head hunger :(

will love my sleeve for the rest of my longer, healthier, happier life :)

good luck :)

Thanks for sharing Likas! I would be very happy to continue having no appetite until 8 months out! I was so scared pre surgery that I wouldnt be able to handle a liquid diet for an extended time but I get so full from liquids and have no desire to eat. I was suprised! Im only 4 days out though, I hope it lasts.

I am also 4 days out. I have to use the clock to remember to eat. I have no hunger at all at this point.

I've noticed times when i get hungry an hour after last Protein meal. It is not very strong, but I do have to remind myself to wait. I try and eat eat every 3 hours to keep a normal eating cycle. This started happening at around 9 weeks out. I am now 12 weeks out. Hope that helps. Good luck.

I have no hunger either. Surgery was 9/19, so that makes me what..12 days out? I love aromas of food when I drive by or walk by in the neighborhood. But it doesn't trigger hunger at all. I laugh a little bit because all I could eat if I wanted is a pencil eraser size bite anyway. I've been wondering really if it isn't just flavor I miss, rather rhan food.

Maybe it is the flavor instead of the food! My husband makes these insane meals for him and my son. They smell so delicious and although I really enjoy the smell, I no longer have that overwhelming feeling to stuff myself. Or even try a bite for that matter!! Watching them eat has no effect on my appetite. In my 31 years I have never felt like this. Thank God for the sleeve. I really hope I can continue to not feel hunger.

Yes that's true I will say that now I doesn't bother me watching them eat things that I can't or shouldn't have. Pre op it was horrible but now I can watch them eat pizza, spaghetti, steak, etc (my favs) and not be bothered. Although I am still hungry I just reach for things I can eat and I'm satisfied

Mine was about 3 weeks but not the same as it used to be. I used to always eat just once a day and never had hunger until around that meal. But I have found now it is not so much hunger but something telling me to eat about every 2-3 hours now.

There's a downside to the lack of hunger. I'm four weeks out, and there's no hunger ... but I don't feel like eating! It's getting bad because I know I'm not getting enough Protein. But when I stare at that Protein shake, or that dish of food, I just don't want to eat/drink it. I'm not sickened by it, just don't feel like eating it. Many days I don't eat until afternoon.

I know this isn't good, but what can you do to STIMULATE the desire to eat??

I started being hungry a week out but nothing like pre op. When I got real hungry before and didn't eat anything I would get weak and sick. After surgery, I would get hungry but could hold out another hour or so before wanting to eat.

That is reassuring to learn that when the hunger comes back, it isn't the same as before the surgery. I would get weak and extremely moody when I got hungry. I was a nightmere to be around :/

As for stimulating the appetite, I actually have no idea. I didn't ever think that would be a problem but I can see how that would make meeting your daily goals very difficult. Hopefully someone on here will have an answer for you AMW157. That has to be rough.

I had about a four day break from hunger after surgery and that was the end of that! It isn't head hunger or acid, I just didn't lose my hunger. However, my weight loss has not been affected. I am still able to maintain my calories around 700 per day. I have lost 78 lbs since May - currently at 177. And I just have to be more careful to keep healthy Snacks close at hand always so that when the hunger hits I am not surprised to find myself ravenous with no options. Raw veggies and beef Jerky are lifesavers as emergency food! If you didn't lose your hunger or it returned early I think you could still have great success.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
