Stall Only After A Month Of Surgery? Stresss

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I just did my surgery on the 17th August 2012. Since then, I've lost 15 kg. Mostly because I had a major swelling and some other complication which made me had to go 2 endoscopy and another surgery after my sleeve. Please do not take my incident as a normal sleeve gastrectomy procedure, because mine is a bit unique since I used to have a gastric balloon before. Anyway, I've been on a liquid diet since the surgery until now (almost 2 months now). My doctor suggest to start eating porridge etc in 2 weeks time.

Anyway, after such a rapid lost, I've hit a stall. I've realized that my weight has not decreased for the last 3 weeks .. in fact I GAINED A KILO! (i know its only a kilo, but for a day, i only eat as below and it kinda scares the sh*t out of me how i manage to gain weight.

- 2 X 200cc low fat milk

- 300 cc Protein drink with 300++ calorie and 20 Protein

- liquid multi Vitamins

- 300 cc Soup (varies .. sometimes just mushroom Soup, clear soup, chicken broth soup)

and if i feel like it .. steam fish with its soup (sometime tom yum soup, miso soup, or steam fish with soy sauce)

- 200 cc juice (varies between banana, guava, strawberry, avocado etc)

I do not snack nor drink soda. Anyone, help??? How do I start dropping again???

It is completely normal to stall once you add some food back in to your diet. Everyone I've talked to has stalled then. After that the weight loss is slower, adding in exercise once your doctor says it is okay will help. I am not able to add in exercise yet, my eight stayed about the same for maybe two weeks? Now I think I lost one pound in the past week.

After not eating and or being on a liquid diet your body is not use to eating food so your metabolism is why your body is kind if out of whack...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
