Any Sleeve Surgeons In Washington Dc

Yeah, I've been told that too. a friend going to the same program as I am said, "But you're not that big." Uhhhh, I beg to differ. I'm big enough to start having hip pains from trying to do the treadmill at a high elevation a few months ago; big enough to have diabetes and sleep apnea; big enough for back pain. It seems to be harder and harder to move around by the day, & am VERY glad I started this process in May. I started with a BMI of 39, now approximately 36. The day of the weigh ins, I have to make sure I eat Breakfast the day of the weigh in and not go to the bathroom! I'm so afraid I may land on the BMI of 34.9 and the insurance company won't cover it. I haven't tried too hard to lose weight, it's kind of happening thanks to the book on emotional eating, "Emotional First + Aid" (the bariatric one) by Cynthia Alexander. I figured, if I don't get the emotional part, after the surgery, I'll start grazing and gain some of it back. I want it all GONE!

The insurance companies aren't going to pay biggo bucks for someone's surgery unless they are in a very unhealthy situation. Their cutoff is a BMI of 40 without co-morbidities. As time goes on, the co-morbidities, i.e., diabetes and sleep apnea and others can kick in, not to mention more and more wear and tear on your joints. You will be much healthier, the earlier the better (my opinion).

I've read on Bariatric Pal that most people turn the corner between 3 - 5 days. Good luck!

Hey! I go to Washington Hospital Center too. I'm getting the sleeve with Dr. Brebbia. My monthly nutritionist meetings are $34 out of pocket which isn't too bad. Dr. Brebbia, is very personable and easy to talk to. I wish I had more meetings with him along the way because when he did my endoscopy (a requirement for the surgery) I saw that he'd found a hiatal hernia, and I want to talk to him about what we're going to do about it. Other than that everyone has been very friendly and willing to help.

I imagine he's going to fix it while doing the sleeve surgery. I've read many posts on that.

Update: I was sleeved on Friday, Sept.26th by Dr. John Brebbia at Medstar Montgomery (Montgomery General) Hospital. He is very easy to talk to and, the surgery went very smoothly. He removed the gas at the end of surgery, so I didn't have any gas pain. By Sunday morning I felt 99% as well as when I walked in there. In case anybody is interested, he holds seminars to explain the differences between the surgeries (the Bariatric Coordinator is Kenny Alexander (301) 570-8593 ). They have a great program of nutritional meetings once a month to get people ready. I highly recommend Dr. Brebba and the program at Medstar Montgomery.

I was just operated on by Dr. Barry Greene whose office is in Rockville, MD and the hospital he uses is Shady Grove (Adventist). I can honestly say that this doctor is top of the line and the hospital staff were the best staff out of five different local hospitals where I have been to for surgery or as an inpatient. This doctor misses nothing in the prep work for the procedure.

However, I have the most awful case of burping now no matter how little I drink or how slow. It could be related as well to my hiatal hernia repair he did on Monday at the same time.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
