Diet Coke/Diet Pepsi - this was the hardest of all! I quit cold turkey, and went through the caffeine withdrawls (headaches). It is the only thing I still crave - almost two months after my surgery. Having gone through the surgery, recovery, etc., I absolutely don't want to do any harm or reversal (stretching the stomach), so I guess I will concede that soda and carbonation will never be on my menu again :( Definitely one of those things I should have appreciated more when I could drink it!

I don't think I could stop cold turkey. I am down to two a day and still have a little bit of a headache if I don't have one in the morning.

I weaned myself down, first caffeine free, and then totally. I am now 7 weeks post op and I still dont care for any liquids at all. I dont drink diet coke beause I know the flat version wouldn't do it so it's not worth it but it is the one thing I miss more than anything after 2 months out. I'm tired of being thirsty and nothing quenches and I cant get enough of any liquid. Good luck.

I hope you are able to drink more liquids soon so you don't get dehydrated. How are you feeling post op? flat version just doesn't cut it. I am realizing what a habit it is to just grab a diet coke without thinking. I really struggle with that rather than the actual drink itself, besides the caffeine withdraw.

Not yet sure when my surgery will be but I am on day 3 of no Coke. It's killing me lol. I figured I had to do it early so that it's not a problem later. I did the weaning thing as well. I only had one or two a day before but weaned myself down and now none. I miss them so.

Way to go on day 3!!

Today was my first caffeine free day since probably high school! I was so sleepy and foggy headed. LOL

I hope you survived today. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. It look like we will have surgery one week apart and close to the same starting weight. Keep in touch and let me know how your insurance approval goes.

I survived yesterday, but just barely! LOL I was definitely not on my A Game. :o

I yawned about 6000 times yesterday and was SO goofy. I felt like I couldn't string together a sentence!!! BUT, I didn't really have a headache or feel bad physically. Yay!

Confession: I had 1/2 of one this morning bc I have to conduct interviews today. ;)

I agree that giving up my daily (or thrice daily) Diet Coke/Pepsi is going to be one of the hardest things to do. I have done like a few others and have recently made the slow weaning switch to caffeine free. I tried drinking a flat one today and wound up dumping half of it so maybe I am on my way!

I was addicted to DP. I quit cold turkey the day my preop diet started. Haven't missed it at all actually. In fact, I'd hate to taste it at this point (preop started 8/21, sleeved 9/4). My husband & I have given up soda many times cold turkey & slowly go back to them after a few months. I just don't see that happening now bc of how uncomfortable I would imagine it would be on my tummy.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
