I am 17 days post op and since day 1 I have experienced numbness, pins and needles, sharp shooting pains and hyper sensitivity in my upper thighs and buttocks. I have also experienced an extreme lack of energy. I am a restaurant manager by trade and work on my feet all day so even at my heaviest I have always had plenty of energy. I attributed this to surgery, lack of Protein, sitting more than usual, etc.... But today I started doing some research and came across peripheral neuropathy. I am going to see my surgeon tomorrow but was wondering if anyone on here has experienced any of these symptoms.

I would be concerned that the pins & needles / numbness (aka peripheral neuropathies) and fatigue you have been experiencing are related to Vitamin deficiencies. Specifically, B-12 and/or potassium in regards to the pins & needles/numbness. Whereas, the fatigue you have been experiencing may be related to a B-12 and/or an Iron deficiency. How have you been doing with getting your Vitamins in? Also how do you think you've been doing with maintaining hydration? Although dehydration wouldn't be a sole reason for your symptoms, it could definitely be a contributing factor.

The fatigue I don't know about but-

Immediately after my laproscopic gallbladder surgery my right outer thigh was completely numb. Within 6 months this had translated into severe itching in the muscle, deep tissue, and painful stabbing occasionally.

Apart from using them as antidepressants I have found a combination of endep and cymbalta turned the pain back into a faint numbness.

I think starting a low dose of either of these could resolve your issue if it is nerve related.

I have also heard adding magnesium supplements can help with nerve issues, although my doc says what is in a good Multivitamin is enough (and if that doesn't work then you'll need to try other routes).

Best of luck!!!

Well, Fool, I think you're doing the right thing to get checked by your doctor very quickly! I hope it's something very simple, like drink more Water and take the right combo of Vitamins. If it is peripheral neuropathy, there are meds for that and, hopefully, losing pounds will reverse the condition quickly. My aunt has PN and it's not pleasant by any means from her description.

Good luck!!

I havesuffered from PN for years (made worse by severely low b12) and have felt a marked improvement since surgery. Weird, huh? Please talk to your doctor.

I see a neurologist regularly for my PN

I too have PN and I've stopped taking my meds for it because they cause weight gain. It's a horrible feeling but I think the worst part was the testing for it. I will never forget that.. -__-

Please contact your Dr ASAP!

Best of luck to you!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
