Dr. Ponce De Leon Or Dr. Alejandro Lopez

Recommended Posts

Good morning,

I am a brand new newbie and a self payer going to Mexico. I have it narrowed down to two surgeons. Anyone out there have an experiences to share to help me decide. Unfortunatly this will be a lonely experience for me as my support group does not support my decision. Looking to sleeve in March while on Spring Break from college. I am a full time wife, mother, employee, and student!!!

I'm kind of in the same situation you are in! I tell my family how bad I want and need this, and they just laugh it off because it's in Mexico and tell me how crazy I am. Little do they know, I'm gonna do it! I would love their support, and I need it, but whether they give it to me or not I'm going through with it regardless. I'm looking at going in March as well. I haven't picked a surgeon yet. Which 2 are you debating on?

I just got sleeved on Friday 14th by Dr Ponce de Leon! I am sitting in my hospital room at INT waiting to go get my leak test and then I'm getting discharged! yay!!! I have had a GREAT experience and definitely recommend Dr Ponce and his coordinator Trish! I was VERY nauseated the first night but that is typical for me from anesthesia.. the other ladies here were totally fine and came to check on me LOL the nurses are AWESOME! they are so encouraging and were here around the clock with whatever meds I needed. I only needed pain meds the first night and haven't had any since! Anyway I'd be happy to answer questions, will be home on Monday and have a bunch of pics I'm going to share of my experience :)

I'm with nursgirl! Dr Ponce did my surgery 6/15/12! I'm doing great! Dr ponce, trish, and int were all wonderful! Plus, i have had to have a cat scan and upper endoscopy done since being home (not related to my VSG), and my sleeve looks great from the inside & out! :) I also am a full-time wife, mother, employee, and student-- you can do this! Good luck!

I'm leaning towards Dr ponce de leon. The reviews I have read are great. I've talked with, texted, and emailed with Trish. I am feeling more confident with my choice each day. I'd like to do it sooner...

I'm having my surgery with Dr. Lopez 9-21. He just moved to a new hospital, thought I was going to have my surgery in the old one. I'm super excited about going to Puerto Vallarta. I will definitely update you on my experience. I will have video updates on Youtube.

I was sleeved w/ dr. Ponce de leon, and I can confidently recommend him. Another thing is since you are going it alone you'll want someone like Trish around. She is a heaven sent, just ask anybody that has met her. She has a great way of putting you at ease, & is willing to bend over backwards to make sure your needs are met.

I'm using a Light Me too. If you look at their website you will see pics of a new hospital then pics of Cornerstone. They are using the new one. I notice that they had added to new pics so I e-mail Janese. I still need to contact Maria.

The time is going to go by so slow, sorry you still have a month to go. I booked the first part of August and time has started to stand still...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
