Anyone Else In The 350+ Pre-Op Weight Range?

Recommended Posts

When I started my journey in nov '11 I was 347. I know I weighed more, but didn't weigh myself till after two weeks of dieting. I was scared to see the scale. I started my preop aug 3rd and was at 311. Aug 14 was my surgery date and I was 296. Today I am at 269!! I am down 78 lbs since I started and down 27 since day of surgery. I still have a ways to go, but I am thrilled with the results so far!

Ladies there are obese, morbidly obese and then Dang he a biggen! I fell under (Dang!!!) at a starting weight of 505 and am at 455 right now with just about a month of loss. But have just started this long journey and will not give up. Yes I have to hit the onderland mark not once but three times to get back to being me. More to come.

You all have done great so far! :)

Excited to see people that started over 300 lbs. Reading all the threads with people that only need to loose 100 pounds makes me feel that I have so far to go. First visit with surgeon was at 364, did high Protein, low carb diet and was 331 at surgery on 9/13/12. Two week post-op weight was 313. Thrilled to be down 50 pounds. Clothes are loose and I am excited to be starting this journey.

I have surgery in a few weeks. My heigheat weight (known weight anyway- I'm SURE I was over 380 at some point) but my heighest known was 379. Now I'm 367- down 12lbs and hope to be down 5-10 more by surgery. So we'll see how things go! I'm very hopeful!

It's so encouraging to read these posts. Everyone is doing well! I am exactly 8 months out today and am down 108 (31 of that was pre-op). Feel great and life is good! Losing has slowed waaaaay down - I'm lucky to lose 8 pounds in a month. And it's not steady; I'll stall for two or three weeks, then lose 3+ pounds in one week. Keep up the good work, everyone!!

My heaviest weight was 347 back in April when I began the process. When I went in for surgery on Monday 9/24 a week ago, I was down to 300 and feeling much better. Right now only being a week post-op I am having a difficult time. I can easily drink my Water but am struggling with the Protein Shakes and feel like I need more calories but I don't want anything other than water. I hope this feeling goes away soon, so my energy levels come back up. I am looking forward to the day when I feel like I truly made the right choice, somewhere in the back of mind I know I did. I just want to really feel it!!!

It will go away. Try sugar free popsickles. I remember right after my surgery I couldn't eat a whole one. The flavors tasted so good and the cold was refreshing. Be patient. Your tummy is healing. Keep trying with the shakes. Be gentle with yourself!!!!

Boy did I need to hear that today. Thanks for the kind words. I am inspired by YOU!!!!!!! Wow - 3 years! Awesome!!!

Had a not so great weekend with food. Long story but I was with others who are eating lots of stuff that isn't good and I let myself dip into it. But I am home now, had a good dinner, and did weigh - down another two so at 94 now. Yeah!!!! So very thankful!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
