Well let's first say I am on my liquid diet and doing awesome. I've not cheated since I started 9.6.12. I will be sleeved this coming Thurs(yay). Here's the deal I am going to a friends bday party tonight at a local bar. So I usually only have a drink or two, but tonight that's a no go. I am planning on staying for about an he or so & sip Water. I'm feeling kind of stressed about my will power & not joining in on the social part of drinking & eating. Anyone have encouraging words or suggestions?

Not gonna lie, it will be tough, but keep your eye on the prize. You have done so well, you are so close. Think to yourself, is it really worth it this time. You will be able to go out again, and even have a drink, but you can get through it this one time. Especially alcohol so close to surgery. Alcohol thins the blood. I remember when I got my tattoo, they would not work on me if I had been drinking because you will bleed way too much! Keep that in mind. The best thing to do is leave if it is getting too hard. If your friends know, they will understand, especially if you leave before everyone else has had a little too much! If not, use not feeling good or something like that. You can do it. You obviously have a lot of will power and determination!

I survived by realising these occasions were actually about celebrating friends and family and not about eating and drinking. It was hard, but making the conscious shift in how I thought about these occasions helped a lot. It is another reminder of what is important, my health, well being, family and friends.

Have some cranberry juice. All bars have it.

Sit back and relax :)

Sometimes I ask for Water flavoured with a dash of lime juice in a wine glass, it makes me feel like I am not missing out on anything :-)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
