Hungry?! Really?! Am I Alone?

Recommended Posts

So I am about two and half months post op and can eat regular food which I have been and have had no problems. I eat and I swear I am hungry again in an hour or two. I had read on other forums that say the hunger hormone is cut out when they do the sleeve but I am not sure I buy that. I am certain this is hunger pangs and not just mind hunger and I am trying not to "graze" on junk. I am sooooo frustrated and feel like I am eating way more than I should. In addition to this issue, I feel like when I do eat I am eating too much. I probably ought to measure it to be certain but if I were to guess I would say I am probably eating about 1 cup of food at a sitting. Is anyone else having this problem with hunger?? Any input?

Oh I'm always hungry too! I know it's not acid because I'm on an omeprazole and have dealt with acid reflux for many years. This is regular hunger and it's more frequent now than before surgery. I follow all the rules and don't drink anything 30 minutes before eating and 30 after, take in 80+ grams of Protein, and drink all my water..... but am hungry all the time. I'm envious of those who lose their hunger pangs but... I'm losing weight well and am close to goal so I guess I will learn to live with the hunger.

I am still losing as well but I am afraid I will stall my progress if I am not careful. Are you eating more frequent small meals to try and curb the hunger?

Maybe your dosage needs to be increased? Can you talk to your surgeon about this? Good Luck :)

I have had persistent hunger starting shortly after surgery. It has not improved and my surgery was four months ago. I take Prevacid twice daily and my acid is under control. Some of us are just not so lucky and don't lose the hunger - my surgeon said this is true for 10%ish.

I manage my hunger constantly by scheduling carefully my meals, Protein shakes, Snacks, and Water. By doing that I'm able to stick to 600-700 calories.

A cup of food at a time sounds ambitious - you should ask your doc about quantity. I stick to smaller meals but can't say I have all the right answers.

Good luck!

Ooooohhhhhh nooooo.....It's NOT just you. I healed well, and I healed fast. I was hoping for a longer period of post-op swelling!! LOL NOpe. I get HUNGRY and I can hold more than I'm happy with, so I have to curb it at half a cup of food. If I don't measure, I'll just keep eating! I've been battling some cravings lately too. I think it's just a rough patch, hopefully normal in the grand scheme of the whole process.... It's not my acid reducers, it's not anything but the fact that i'm just hungry. I do need to gravitate to the Protein items, as they DO satisfy better and longer, but sometimes my brain wants something naughty and carb-laden. MUST........RESIST!!! God help us.

Hmmm....I notice we're both Dr. Kim patients too! He uses the endoscope to size the sleeve, which is equivalent to a 34 bougie, which is very small....so it's weird that I can hold so much and that we're both so hungry....

I've heard that maybe I have a "long" stomach??

Me too, especially now at 6 months out I have many hungry days. But,when I eat juat 3 oz of dense Protein like chicken or tuna, I am full and stay full.I also now try to not drink for 45 minutes after a meal. When I add any carbs in the morning, even too much tea with milk,I stay hungry all day!

I also dont think I lost my hunger much at all.Having said that,it might still be the head that rules...dont know.

i love bostons & want one so bad! my grandma has one & he's the cutest little booger! :)

Dosage?

of anti-acid

one thing i've seen people mention that hasn't been addressed here is what if it's gas? can you take some gas-x & see if that helps? apparently gas can cause you to feel very hungry..

in any case, i hope you all get better!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
