Today Was The Day.....that I Threw Up!

Recommended Posts

I have been pretty adamant that I was not going to throw up. For one, my tummy is still so sore that it hurts to laugh or cough or anything so I knew throwing up would be painful. Secondly, I have all of you wonderful people to learn from. I told my husband that I have read over and over again how people eat to much or drink to much and get sick and that I would avoid that at all costs because I knew from your mistakes what not to do.

Yep...that is true, but clearly not enough for me. I woke up early this morning (my first day home alone bc my hubby went back to work today) and I went downstairs to make me some coffee with Protein. As I was making it I had this really empty nagging feeling in the pit of my stomach and I had a sudden urge for something to drink. I felt like if I didn't drink something right then I would be sick. So, I grabbed a bottle of Water and proceeded, stupidly I might add, drink the Water as if I were a normal person. Ha. I took probably two regular size drinks instead of "sips" and I paid for it. Within a minute I was standing over the sink regurgitating.

I realize this isn't the most glamorous post, but I felt like it was a good lesson learned for a Monday morning. If there was any question in my mind as to whethe or not my surgeon actually cut me, I got my answer this morning. :)

Happy Monday!

OH NO!!!!! I'm so sorry! :(

I haven't had surgery yet. I was afraid I would do that as well! When you're thirsty (I know it's a learned process, but still.....) you take a drink. I have been practicing sipping. I get it right about 1/2 of the time! At least it was Water and not coffee.

I am NOT a fan of throwing up......

A hard lesson learned. I hope I learn it, too!

Uh oh! But that happens. The first few days I actually had an empty cup by my bedside for a 'spit cup.'. Sounds gross, but i'd take too big of a sip and think 'Oh S%*!!'. Most of the time I was able to catch myself ahead of time. I'm 3 weeks out tomorrow and every once in a while i still glug too much.

Sorry but it is hard to learn I can just now being 6 months out chug a little bit of Water when I need to. I can't do it much but I can a little. I have also found I can't not for the life of me eat and talk I have to pay attention to just eating.

It doesn’t matter how much you try to avoid it sometimes its not over eating or being too fast sometimes the food just doesn’t sit well and wants out asap!

Day 2 in hospital I was like foamy Water sick when they give me a little cup to drink I had barely taken a couple of sips and blugh water isn’t my friend still to this day but day 2 helllllll nahhhh!

I have a plastic jug in my room incase I puke when I am in there lol

This floor and the ground floor have bathrooms 3rd floor where my room is nope so the big plastic jug comes in handy if you drink too much or what have you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
