Doc says I'll be able to take my pills after surgery and I won't need to crush them or get liquids compounded. What is your experience with this? I take a tiny bp pill, Seroquel 200 mg, and fluvoxamine 100 mg. He said Multivitamin will be Gummy since it's so large.

I only had my pills crushed while in the hospital, once released (3 days post op) I was able to take them without crushing. The Vitamin I got was a chewable because they are so big. You should be fine taking them without crushing as long as you can swallow them easily. Best of luck to you :)

You won't have any problems with small pills, even right after surgery. I moved back to non-gummy Vitamins about 12 weeks out and have done fine. What I don't do any more is take several pills at a time (I used to gulp down a Vitamin, allergy and PPI at one time).

My instructions were only liquid, sublingual, "solutab", chewable, crushable or mixable (capsules that can be opened and dumped into something like unsweetened applesauce). This recommendation is for at least a year...for life, if at all possible.

"Gummy" anything is off-limits. If you want to understand why, take a gummy bear and let it sit in a glass of Water for a few hours. They swell significantly, and are much more likely to hung up in your sleeve, causing blockages.

If you're not sure if your particular meds can be crushed, or dumped out and mixed, ask your pharmacist...they should be able to tell you, and/or offer alternative deliver types.

Best of luck

Laura

I was allowed to take mine as well. You and I are on similar perscriptions- I just had to spread them an hour apart. And is far as a multi there are a lot of awesome liquid multi's on the market if you don't want to do the gummie route. All the best to you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
