First Time Using Unflavored Unjury Protein Powder - The Verdict

Recommended Posts

Yeah!!! I received my samples of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury the other day. I've been drinking Atkins and Pure Protein RTD shakes. I doctor them up a bit ( a little low carb milk, 1 tbls SF pudding mix, 2 tbls Greek yogurt, 1/4 banana, 3 ice cubes) and they end up tasting like dessert! I am serious.

Now I know after surgery I won't be able to drink the shakes for a few weeks at least (right?) and I've been trying different samples of Protein powders. All have been YUCK. Until today. Today I added Unjury Unflavored Protein powder to my shake to boost protein. Not the whole packet --probably 1/3 of the packet. I could not taste anything different. The texture of the shake did not change nor did the taste! So this is how my shake shakes out in the blender! :) I'm guesstimating -- I did not convert measurements

1 Pure chocolate Bliss Pure Protein RTD Shake: 120 Calories 23g protein

1/4 Cup low carb Hood Milk: 20 Calories 1g Protein

1/4 banana 20 Calories 0g Protein

I Tablespoon sugar free pudding 25 Calories 0g Protein

2 Tablespoons Greek yogurt 35 Calories 6g Protein

3 cubes ice

1/3 packet of Unjury Unflav Protein Powder 30 Calories 7g Protein

245 Calories 37g Protein

It makes a large VERY filling shake-- often I just drink half and save the rest for later.

Now the next big test will be to put it in something else -- coffee, Soup, etc.... What type of Clear liquids (immediately after surgery phase) would be good with Unjury Protein. I really want to try to get protein in right after surgery. I have too many immune system health issues (MS, Lupus) to get run down so I want to really try to get my protein in during the weeks right after surgery. I hope the powder is still tasteless in other clear liquids.....

I'm drinking it right now in my Crstal Light and can't taste it at all. I also put it in my broth when it cools a bit (has to be only warm, not hot) and in SF Jello I make myself. No taste and no thickening,

Ps the Unjury chicken broth is good, but for me, it was broth in>broth out 30 minuted later. I am just adding unflavored to my boullion now. I have another packet so I'll try it again in a few days.

Hi Amy,

So it was the Unjury broth that was the problem, not broth in general? And when you say broth in broth out, which end are we talking about? :)

So Jello counts as a clear liquid?

I've found the unflavored Unjury works in just about anything that has its own flavor....soups (cream of Tomato, beef broth, chicken consommé, etc), hot tea, hot coffee...its all good...as long as the mixer has a relatively strong flavor. I do really like the chicken broth-flavored Unjury powder...particularly if its mixed in chicken broth, instead of Water. Just remember....make sure the liquid is less than 130 degrees (F) before mixing the powder in..otherwise you get Protein goop! LOL

Yes, it melts in your mouth.

I made sure to buy the thermometer when I ordered my samples. Where do you buy your Unjury? Obviously I will be buying a tub of it!

It was definately the Unjury chicken broth for me. No problems with unflavored. I'm using "better than boullion" for my broth. I got mine from Unjury.com. The site has good recipes for WLS patients too. Jello is fine since it's clear.

Oh, forgot to answer your other question, For me, the broth turned into explosive diarreah. Sorry, but you asked. No nausea, just gotta go...NOW! I had the same problem when I added SF hawaiin punch to a bottle of Water.< /p>

Has anyone tried Unjury unflavored in applesauce? Still pre op but thinking of the things that will easily go down in post op stages that I could add Protein to

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
