Have any of you gone home the same day as surgery?

I was in the hospital for 6 days, because the inside of my sleeve was so inflamed nothing could pass through. I didn't get anything to drink (not even ice chips) until the night of the 4th day, then progressed rapidly to full liquids on day 5, and home on day 6. I'm grateful my surgeon was as conservative as he was, giving me the time to heal properly, without rushing me out the door.

I'm sure you stayed longer because of your complication. How long did your doc say you would be there pre op?

I had my sleeve done as day surgery. I was operated on at 10:30 and released at 1:30. During that first week I was second guessing that decision. But after that I realized how much it helped me feel in better control of my recovery. Had I been in the hospital I may have milked it a bit. Having been released I had to get up, follow written instructions and get my butt moving. I was up and in good forward motion in 2 weeks.

I spent one night due to uncontrollable nausea/vomiting. I was up and moving within hours post-op, but I hurled blood into the evening, so I had to stay. Discharged the next afternoon, after having two meals without vomiting.

I had surgery in the morning and was discharged the afternoon/evening of the next day. Was at the clinic maybe 36 hours or less. I wouldn't have been able to go home the same day, I was up and walking but still pretty out of it.

I stayed overnight, but was there less than 24 hours. My doc said his patients all stay overnight.

I just had my surgery last Thursday the 30th. My doctor keeps his sleeve patients in for 2 nights. The first night was spent in CCU as he likes them to have the extra care. The following morning, the swallow test was done. I was then transferred to the normal surgical floor for my last night where I was observed starting my liquid diet.

I personally was glad for the 2 nights in the hospital with the extra care!

Most will have you stay over night just for precaution a nd to do an upper GI scan to check for leaks. Some let you go the same day. It really depends on your doctor and insurance or if your self pay and want to keep the cost down.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
