Eventually you should be able to eat just about anything... But, IMO, should make better choices and Protein first. I eat a spoon of Peanut Butter everyday. So no problems there. Some people become lactose intolerant. So that is on a person to person basis. Other than that, I think the rest works it out. I'm 4 1/2 months out and have not had one issue. Good luck. See you on the loser's bench

yeah... i've read quite a few on here say that they become lactose intolerant.. but no worries, because there's a variety of "milk" out there.. there's soy milk, almond milk, cashew milk, hemp milk, rice milk, etc.. if you like the taste of milk, i think rice milk is the closest out of the ones i've tasted. Protein wise, hemp, soy & almond are pretty good. almond milk is yummy, too. they come in different flavors, as well & have Vitamin D in them, just like milk.. there's also rice cheeses.. you could just look into vegan options for dairy products. they have "nice creams" and "cheeze".. cream cheese, etc. you wouldn't be "missing" anything, just changing how you do it.

i lost 80lb in 6 months just by cutting meat & dairy out of my diet.. i ate everything i wanted, including bread & chocolate (dark) everyday and had tacos and "burgers" and etc.. lost 80lb.. and i didn't exercise.

just saying that to show you that there's nothing to fear. :) losing dairy may not be what you're used to, but it could end up helping you shed extra pounds & get to your goal. :)

Not be get too personal, but if you aren't Caucasian then you should already have some very minor minor problems with milk already. I am Latina and had small problems before surgery with straight milk, never really cheeses though. It just made me a little gassy. That hasn't changed since the sleeve. It hasn't gotten worse at all.

For me though, sugar is tough on my sleeve. I still indulge every now and then but sometimes too much too quickly makes my stomach very upset. Some days some things don't sit well and then a few days later they will be fine. This is really normal in the beginning, but continues on later as well.

I am 4 1/2 months out and can pretty much eat anything.. I wasn't a big regular milk drinker before... I drank Almond Milk and still enjoy it post-op. I had half a Peanut Butter and jelly sandwich the other day and it was sooooooo good! The only thing I have issues with is bananas.. Loved them before but they make me sick now..... Not sure why....

I am one year out, and there is nothing that I CAN'T eat, just things I choose not to (at least not often). I have little to no soda, Pasta, rice, and bread. They sit heavy in my sleeve and I don't enjoy them like I used to (and I was a CARB QUEEN before surgery!) Potatoes sit fine, but fill me up after 2-3 small bites, so I don't bother with them much. I choose to focus my meals on the Protein, with a small veggie or whole grain cracker on the side possibly. I eat Peanut Butter every single day, without fail- 1 tbsp creamy PB on a whole grain cracker is my evening snack. I have found that I feel much better, with more even energy throughout the day, if I eat 5 small meals per day and include some good carbs. I tried the extremely low carb thing and I felt lousy, my lifestyle is too busy, I needed the energy.

Hope this helps!

What you can and cannot tolerate post-op is really a "Your Mileage May Vary" kind of situation.

For the first 3 months post op, I was totally lactose intolerant. Now, I can ocassionally have hard cheese and cultured things like yogurt, in measured quantities. Protein shakes still make me nauseated, bloaty and gassy.

I cannot tolerate bread in any form, any type of rice, or Pasta. I have a difficult time with chicken in any form still. I can do a few bites of baked potato, but any type of fried potatoes make me very ill (so no fries, hash browns, etc). PB makes me very nauseated.

On the other hand, I eat steak often, which many post-ops have a difficult time with.

There is really no good way to predict how your body will react.

7 almost 8 months out and I can eat anything I want. I don't drink soda and only use 1% milk. Early out there were things that irritated my sleeve but now I can pretty much eat anything with no problem in small quantities.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
