My Mexicalli Experience!

Recommended Posts

Oh dear this is making my decision even harder Dr Garcia is who I'm considering..anybody willing to give me info on Dr Aceves as far as price' date=' follow up care and how long the process and or stay is is really appreciate it!!

Great job on all the weight loss best wishes to you all;)[/quote']

Here's the tricky thing. If you started a thread about any of the most popular docs in Mexico you'd be swarmed with people talking about their amazing experiences. People who had miserable experiences amongst the common/top list seem rare (and woe the person who posts one lest they be attacked by those whose dr is considered sacred). I'd take the boards as info, but with a grain of salt. Know what's important to you, and research research research. My blog has the questions that I focused on (top tab) at http://gastricsleeve4me.blogspot.com if you're interested. Aceves was the perfect choice for me...AMAZING! But since most of us will only do this once and mentally you'll have nothing to compare it to, I'd suspect you'll have a fabulous experience with any number of doctors. Just find someone with tons of experience, low or no complication rate, the price your circumstances allow, and what "feels right". Wish you the best of luck!!

I am scheduled for surgery with Dr Aceves on Friday. I am so excited and ready to do this. I have researched, researched, and researched and feel very comfortable with my surgery and choice of surgeon.

ready2beskinny, Dr Aceves is more expensive than Dr Garcia. I am paying $8750. There are many excellent surgeons out there, most are cheaper. I went through the list, narrowed it to my top 5, then top 2 and finally prayed about it, and woke up one morning feeling in my heart that he was the best choice for me. I have been saving for nearly a year for this, and feel that I personally have the best chance of success with Dr Aceves. I could have had the surgery months ago with a cheaper surgeon, but I was willing to wait and save and pay more money for my own peace of mind. I am not trying to be negative about anyone else's choice. This is my own gut feeling. You have to go with yours.

Thanks moonrisen, I will be sure to pass your message. I'm scheduled for 8/31 so I'm right behing you! Just curious, on the post -op instructions Nina sent, it says clears for 10 days, and on the post-op thread about Aceves patiets (in this Mexico forum) it says 5 days. I'm fine either way, just wonder which one it is?

Yes, I'm calling her my sleeve sister since we have surgery the same day with Dr Aceves. I've warned her I may ask her to hold my hand since I'm going alone. :D

It's 10 days of clears!!

Thanks, I can handle it. I have no pre-op diet, just cutting out the soda and sugar on my own before surgery.

Another happy Dr. Aceves patient here!! Reading your post made me miss them. It was a wonderful experience (for a surgery LOL) . I brought my partner with me, she brought her x-box and both Docs hung out in our room and played with her LOL They have this process down to a T. The only apprehension I had was after the 2 hour drive there. When I walked in and they handed me the cup to pee in I burst out in tears. Thinking what the hell am I doing in a 3rd world country, having surgery. Fortunately met with the anastesiologist right after that and he put me at total ease. He spent 2 hours talking to us, explaining every single thing. Then met with Dr. Aceves. Very very nice and then I knew 100% I was in not only good hands, but great hands! I am at goal, and haven't had any problems what so ever. I need to update my profile picture to show "my after". I am ready to make a second trip down there to get the girls fixed up. I had heard from someone on here that Dr. Aceves was working with a plastic surgeon? Any one have any information?

Yep...Dr Campos kept running me back across the hall. Moony has has this crazy Idea that I need to take my wife back to San Diego for a marriage renewal and second honeymoon. I told her that I was game for the second honeymoon, but i would not be interested in getting married again. Fool me once, Shame on me. Fool me twice........

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
