The Stuff They Don't Tell You

Recommended Posts

What I was unprepared for as a post-op, is that I would forget about food. That I would get to the end of the day and feel crappy, and realize that I had FORGOTTEN to eat for the previous 24hours. That for the first 3 months, the thought of putting anything in my mouth would be repulsive.

Wow. Like, wow. You hit the nail on the head for me. It's not that I had forgotten to eat, but that at no time of the day did I really FEEL like eating. Breakfast? Forget it, can't even consider the thought. Same for lunch. I really had hoped this would go away (I'm 5 weeks post surgery) but it still lingers.

Also, ditto on not being able to drink anything at room temperature. I'm not revelling in your suffering, but I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Its a chore for me to get all the Protein and Water I need everyday, I have to schedule my eating and drinking times, not to mention the Vitamin and mineral intake, its an all day task for me. And if I don't get my correct amount I feel weak.

Thanks everyone for sharing. I'm pre-op and read the entire thread. It really has helped knowing what may happen and know I wouldn't be the only one.

What I wasn't told about -- all the body noises burping, hiccups, stomach gurgles, excess gas! OMG I hope these stop eventually. I'm afraid someone will hear all this noise coming from me! So not lady like! Also, my full pain and hunger pain feel almost alike, so confusing! I didn't realize that some of us would NOT lose as fast, very discouraging. And now from reading on this site I am afraid of losing my hair, something I didn't think would be a problem with me cause I have really thick hair. What an adventure!

I'm constantly asking my husband (who it sitting right next to me), "OMG are you SURE you can't hear my stomach?" Because it is SOOOOO loud to me! It's at it's worst when I am drinking.

I'm 10.5 weeks out of surgery and the burping ALL the time I put anything in my mouth has finally stopped. I only burp now if I eat too fast.

Thankfully I didn't have that problem. However, you will find that your body changes daily so hopefully it will resolve itself quickly.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
