Small Bowel Obstruction...not Fun

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Just got home from 4 days in the hospital for a small bowel obstruction. They gave me an NG tube (tube through nose and down into stomach to drain my stomach and rest my bowels. Way worse than any recovery from my surgery in 12/2011... I just noticed that my mom left some kefir in the fridge, and sipped a bit of that, and I am actually feeling human again. In a way it feels like my first weeks of post op, just less pain. I was shocked at how many medical professionals have no idea about the sleeve... None... I could hear the nurses reporting at shift change that I had a gastric bypass, even though I always corrected them. And I had an NG tube, so there might have been real trouble if I actually had a gastric bypass. The other thing that shocked me was the whole "I told you so..." mentality from people I did not expect to be that way... The obstruction wasn't necessarily a side effect from my sleeve, could have been several things that caused it. But besides, it disturbs me to think how many people are out there wasting their time watching for me to fail... Way to go being supportive... I guess it serves THEM better to have me fat instead of more healthy... :-(

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
