I haven't heard anyone say anything about the tube in their stomach that was.used for drainage. Mine is still in 9 day. Anybody else leave the hospital with it in?

On my class for the surgery we were told that surgeon might decide during the surgery that you need the drainage tube and it suppose to stay even when you go home.

So I understand that it is common....

I personally never had a drain. What exactly is the drain for?

Do not want to scare anyone, but, this is to help others... PLEASE NOTE GRAPHIC PICTURE FOLLOWING. My JP Drain was in for 10 days and I developed an abscess requiring a second sugery to cut out the infection/tissue and treatments to grow tissue. You will see where they outlined the infection while I was in the ER. The infection stayed in my peritoneal cavity and I was lucky!

I did not listen to my body, essentially that has been my message, it is very important to listen to the way you feel. I ignored signs and ended up not well. Many more have been going through more than I have but, feel it is important to share what can happen.

They removed mine prior to leaving the hospital. I clean the wound and redress it daily.

Oh trust me, my husband is EMT, he used gloves and drained it twice or 3 times a day depending. I showered daily and used antibacterial soap around it. They think it may have come from the hospital when placed but, who knows. Most importantly, I was not feeling well and ignored the signs.

I had the bulb on my left side and it was the most irritating thing in the world. Mine was taken out on the third day.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
