Making It Through The Shakes.

Recommended Posts

My Dr. Has me on a Protein Shake diet for twelve days before surgery. The first day was tough. I went to bed early so I wouldnt late night eat:( I have to say the second day has been easier. I did go to Walmart and walk the iles to kill time. I stayed away from the food side. Amazing how much time I have spent on food in the past. I'm thinking of things to do now?

Me and my cups go everywhere together. I am a waitress, and i keep a cup in the kitchen with my shake in it, and another cup with my Water in it. i thought i would hate the shakes, thought i would be starving, but im not. I run and lift and work so hard at...work lol...and then i go to the gym for a little extra abuse lol. everyone knows the blue cup is my shakes and the pink one is my Water.

i have found i have a TON of energy right now...i have been doing the shakes and only one meal a day for a month now, tried to get it started when i decided to get on the ball with my surgery so that it wouldnt be a shock to the system. have to say, it was a great idea. when the dr told me yesterday that i was to do 4 small shakes and only one meal i day, i was able to say "ok" and know it wouldnt be a big deal

so work for 4+ hours a day as a waitress, 1+ hours at the gym daily, and my shakes and a meal is working out pretty good for me. then i go home and do yard work, house work and deal with my kids (4year old and 20 month old) lol

I did the same thing.... started the Protein Shakes 2 months before I needed to. I wanted to experiment and find the right powder/drink. I am now "officially" on the 7 day pre-op diet of 2 shakes and a light dinner diet and it is a breeze!

I am on day 3 shakes only for 14 days - yesterday was tough - bad headache but I drank a 5 alive and that seemed to help. It's made by via vente and it is a small packet - 15 calories - pomegranate, noni, acai juices.

How long are you planning to take off work after the surgery? I am also a waitress and I have 17 months old son:)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
