Worried About How Little I Can Eat 4 Months Out.

Recommended Posts

My standard restaurant protocol:

1. Order water--even if you're not going to drink it. It just keeps them from asking you over and over if you want a beverage.

2. When ordering, smile pleasantly at the waitperson and say, "I'd like the appetizer cup of French onion Soup for my entree', please." If they say, "Will that be all?" or the less polite, "Is that all you want?", I say, again, with a pleasant smile, "Yep, that will do it!", hand them my menu, and turn my attention to my companions.

3. If a waitperson comes by and asks if there's something wrong with my soup, I just smile and say, "No, it's delicious! I'm just full," and leave it at that. I've noticed that since we end up going to the same places fairly routinely, the waitstaff get to know that I'm going to order one of a few things and that I will ALWAYS need a go-box.

I have had a difficult time with Protein, and getting what I need. My latest labs showed my Protein was low. I try to eat enough protein but I honestly can't eat that much. An egg for Breakfast (takes me about an hour to eat 1 scrambled egg, which is cold by the time I'm done) works well for me and keeps me full most of the day. I have to force myself to eat anything at lunch. And I agree, by dinner time I'm not in the mood for food. I will feed my child but I'm not hungry. I wish I could Protein shake it but I am so over Protein shakes. The nectar ones are still ok, but I'm just over them! After months of only Protein Shakes I can hardly stomach them. Truth be told, the normal protein shakes that are "creamier" in texture (choc, vanilla, strawberry) give me the slimes. Ugh.

I am tracking it better on myfitnesspal website. I don't like that I cannot alter my calories, carb, and protein daily requirements though. Sometimes I feel like I eat too much. But I never eat enough to get sick so maybe not. I do sometimes eat too fast and that comes back to kick me BAD! So far I've got no regrets. I can eat most things, just not much of it! I do love sugar free popsicles, especially at night!

I’m a week infront of you may 15th I was sleeved I too can’t eat 4oz at a time 3 times a day plus snack!

No where near that!

I can eat 1oz at a time and it takes about a hour, if its soft and easy like fish if its denser like turkey mince 1oz takes longer to eat.

I don’t do rice Pasta potatoes at all so I pick what I am going to eat like right this 1oz will be fish then in a couple of hours I will eat 1oz of veg I don’t mae all my meals Protein only I need some veg.

I try to eat 3 times a day but its about 1oz at a time and on top of the food I eat a nectarine that’s about my food intake.

Typical eating day for me is cheerios, then fish, then some veg and I will eat a nectarine.

If its not fish its half a can of baked Beans and cheese or some turkey chilli if I do chilli I will finely dice mushrooms peppers and onion like really really tiny so I will bypass the veg 1oz meal slot and have 2 lots of chilli.

For me when I brought this up last month to the doctor because I was being sick so much and not pushing portion sizes or anything and even Fluid was making me puke like Soup and stuff, she told me end of this month I would be scanned and checked for scare tissues in my esophagus which could be why food is harder to eat and get more solid food past as it’s a smaller opening acting kinda like a band that the food has to slip past.

The reason I had to wait is because scare tissue doesn’t build up enough to see till a certain amount of time post op so maybe you want to ask for the scan to check.

I am also 4 months out...and I can eat about 4 oz at a sitting and I do have hunger, but it is nothing like it used to be and I am easily satisfied.

I would talk to my nutritionist and see what they think about your intake and can you expect to be able to tolerate more as time moves forward? How many calories are you consuming daily?

Are you losing alot of hair? I have been for awhile, but I see a whole new undergrowth of hair coming in so hopefully it will level out soon.

I could eat very little as well early on, so I had to make it count. I started getting all my Protein from food at about 2 months post op. I started and ended every day with 8 oz of skim milk. (8 grams per cup), I would have an egg or a third of a cup of cottage cheese. I increased the cottage cheese, 1% of course, a little at a time. I can eat a half cup now, and I'm not quite 27 months out. A fourth cup of tuna (packed in Water, 2 TB of Lite mayo per can) is about 13 grams of Protein. I still keep a bag of frozen shrimp in my freezer. It's loaded with protein, and shrimp goes down easy!! You may have to add a snack of steamed shrimp or some lean deli turkey or roast beef to get your protein in. During the losing stage I was getting between 400 and 550 calories per day, and I could get all the protein required!! NEVER had a hair problem!!! You can do it, this is normal!!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
