Preparing For Cancun

Recommended Posts

Hard to believe that next Friday I will be flying to Mexico getting ready for my surgery. I can't seem to think of anything else right now and trying to 'prepare' myself. To those who have already gone to Cancun for surgery, or anywhere in Mexico, what did you bring w/you? I will be traveling alone and want to bring my laptop so I can have some communication although not sure I will even open it but want to have it there in case I feel up to sending emails and checking Facebook and of course, coming here!! I am not much of a 'traveler' and have no idea what the requirements are in reference to bringing lotion, cosmetics (not that my vanity is going to be a huge factor, LOL) but I will check my airline to see what the requirements are. If there is anyone that has any advice or recommendations because you have already experienced traveling to Mexico for surgery I would love to hear them. Thanks again and if ANYONE is going to Cancun next weekend (arriving 24th) please let me know ;) My surgeon is Dr. Perez and I am having it at Victoria Hospital and staying at the beautiful Westin Laguna on the water...On another note, the mental preparations are something else I am trying to put in perspective but I don't think anything is really going to prepare me once this surgery is a thing of the past. I pray that it is a smooth transition and I don't expect it to be perfect but just hope there aren't that many bumps in the road. Thanks for listening

I didn't use half of what I took to Cancun. I did use my robe and crocs for walking the halls. I used sugar free Halls defense Vitamin C drops for dry mouth and throat. Wish I had taken my laptop to skype people back home. As far as flying, you can check almost anything, except weapons and certain kind of batteries. For carry on, all liquid under 3 ounces, in a see through plastic baggie. I did not wear make-up until time to fly home. Hope that helps.

Good Luck to you, I went to Mexico June 26th for a revision from band to sleeve but alas  all I received was the band removal as I had erosion... On a good note I will get my sleeve the 1st part of Nov. Here's my list.

PASSPORT!!!

Bring a list of all your medications that you are taking.

Camera

Shampoo and Conditioner, blow dryer,

Leave your jewelry at home.

So what I can tell you is that bring some wash cloths as my hospital didn't provide them.

I brought some thank you notes for the Dr.s and nurses that cared for me.

Make sure you will be traveling with some roomy clothes and flip flops as you may have allot of swelling, in your abdomen and feet.

Bring a wireless bra for comfort as you will have a surgical opening at the sternum.

Bring about 100/150 dollars in cash for anything extra that you may need.

( ask the Dr to give you a supply of something for nausea ie:Zofran)

( ask the Dr to give you a supply of something to prevent gall stones ie: actigall or ursodial )

( liquid prevacid for acid reflux)

you may need that 100 dollars to buy the above meds, or you may have a follow up Doc. to write a script at home?

Just remember to take a deep breath and know everyone here will be anxious to hear about your journey, and by the way you probably won't be alone when I went, I met some wonderful people 6 others actually and we had allot of fun walking around and checking up on each other, so have lots of fun and enjoy yourself.

The Westin will also have Shampoo and conditioner, if you don't want to bring your own. Maybe bring a book or reader since your on your own. I brought crystal light powder single servings to put in my water...helped a lot. Bring gas ex strips. Also don't overpack the clothes, you won't need them and you can't lug heavy luggage after surgery. Good luck, you'll do fine:)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
