before surgery I never had acid reflux but after surgry it wa out of control. I was put on dexilant and that seemed to help untill this past week and it started creeping back up again. dr now put me on nexium. I am hoping this works because waking up in the middle of the night because your heartburn is so bad is not fun at all.

that is the only side effect that I have had from my surgery.... Try some Mylanta before bedtime.. It coats your stomach and should provide you some relief. Also, I keep Tumms on hand for quick relief..... Good Luck!

Haven't had the surgery yet, but I can sympathize with what reflux is all about. I know that propping your pillows up a little more at night can sometimes help. My doctor said it's actually best if you can prop the head of your bed up by a few inches...but I've never been able to figure out how to do that! lol

I have just been advised by a baristric surgeon to take 2 Prilosec daily for my heartburn. I am now going to take one in the am & one in pm.

she also said that if it doesn't go away, the solution would be to have a revision to gastric bypass but that would be along way out! I don't even want to think about that.

I am also seeing a GI doc on Wensday so hope to have more info.

I have never had heartburn, reflux b4 surgery, but it is really bad now & makes eating vey difficult.

Your not kidding! Reflux is horrible! I was on dexilant but it was 192 a month and I couldn't afford to continue it! So I am in OTC 300 mg Zantac one in morning and one at night! It helps, but if I forget I know it

I've heard this is a pretty common side effect...it sucks. I am not sleeved yet but know what reflux and heartburn are like: I used to take proposed, but weaned off and started eating better foods...not a lot of processed stuff. It also helps not to eat before bed, but it seems a lot of this is due to the surgery itself, not necessarily the foods we eat That really sucks... I am not gonna like that one bit :-(

i only experienced acid reflux once since surgery and it was terrifying. so now i take 1 prisolec in the am and 1 prisolec in the pm. also if i eat late i stay up at least an hour before bed time ..that has helped me tremendously. i dont want to feel that way ever again...it was very disturbing having that burning sensation in my throat ....

it use to be a time when i would get up at night and have a cracker if i got hunger but if experiencing that acid reflux i dont eat anything once i go to bed

A friend of mine places pillows between her mattress and boxspring. This actually inclines the head end of the mattress a bit. Well, that's what she does when she travels. At home she had someone make her a wooden wedge that goes between them.

FOr me, if the reflux wants to happen, it will happen. Unfortunately. :( I'll get it sitting upright in a chair, if I doze off. Or in a car. Or wherever.

I'm taking Omeprazole 20mg, It's prescribed 2x day but heartburn is controlled on one, and I can miss a day or two. By day 3 I'm feeling it. But that's just the heartburn. It's not doing (for me) much about the reflux at all. My reflux is more a factor of when I last eat, and/or how I feel when I go to bed. This was also true when I had my band. If I feel "pressure", like I need to burp or like something hasn't gone down yet, I will reflux. Guaranteed. If I don't feel this, I am just fine. This is a good reminder for me to call my surgeon and ask about this. :) (I'm suspecting a bit of dysmotility - I thought maybe a tiny stricture but it definitely seems to be a "later in the day" thing).

I keep a bottle of Mylanta on my nightstand, and some mints. Reflux can be quite unpleasant and the mints help (they mask the taste of the vomit).

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
