Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new here, I am 3 1/2 weeks out and lost 12 lbs right off but have gained 6 back what is the problem? I am walking aleast 1 mile a day and 2 some days... I was told I would loose weight rapid in the first month and this is not happening... Could I be doing something wrong? I am in the mushy stage..

What my surgeon's office told me many times was that the first 6 weeks were for healing. That any weight I might lose was simply a bonus, and when I went from liquids to mushy food I might gain. I'm trying really hard to keep that in mind, as I get to start mushies on Thursday, and I've been losing pretty well.

I was also told that the band is a tool, that won't work correctly until it's been filled to the right spot.

Now, other more experienced bandsters may have input on things you could do differently then you are, I'll be interested in reading replies.

First of where you are at and what is happening to you is normal. You went from liquids to mushys, there will be a gain,I had one and another one from mushys to solids most likely. Do not fret. I am suprised your Dr. told you that you would lose weight rapidly in the first month, most if not all doctors I know who do the band will tell there patients do not worry about weight loss during the first 6 weeks. The first 6 weeks is not about weight loss but about healing. You have no fill, the band is designed to work best when it is filled. Any weight loss during the pre-fill phase is a bonus. This is a journey not a race you have plenty of time to lose wieght, it has only been 3.5 weeks focus on healing first. I have a great thread for you to read that I personally wrote, maybe it will help you , hang in there, the weight loss will happen :( read the link below

I hope you have read La Madam's thread. It is waaaay too early in this marathon to be worrying yourself like this. Right now, you are following your nutritional needs very well, and you are doing reasonable exercise. I think you are doing great!

The weight loss will happen. Focus on healing right now. Don't be so quick to judge yourself a failure, even though we all understand the how many times we've had our hopes up only to be dashed again. It's not going to happen this time. Take it one step at a time. This part of the journey is healing.

I'm 3.5 weeks post op too and I lost 12 pounds in two days and have gained back 5. I know how frusturated you must feel. It's hard when my family who lives in another state keeps asking "how much weight have you lost?" They freaked when I told them I gained! I tried to explain why, but they don't get it. I do applaud you for exercising and eating right - I have struggled with that. Keep up the good work, thanks for the motivation and know you are not alone!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
