I occasionally eat a tiny amount of bread, most often in the form of a egg in the basket (I can eat only ONE) or a toasted cheese sandwich (only one). This isn't very often. Other times I might have a bite or two of a dinner roll or biscuit.

It fills me up too fast with carb heavy calories and doen not satisfy me for very long.

Oh my! Well thanks for responding. That is why I'm so scared. Sometimes I have trouble eating chicken so I know I'm doomed if I try bread. But I must admit that I do miss it. Waah  . Have you tried rice or Pasta? I can't do pasta unless it's in a Soup can. Otherwise it comes right back up  !

For probably the first 6-8 months I didn't really try bread at all, it just didn't feel right. Now toasted bread is ok but I still can only eat maybe a fourth of a slice. I can do tiny bites of a roll. I can also do a tiny bit of cornbread. It just all fills me up so fast.

9 weeks out and was attempting a bit of a sandwich (1 slice of bread cut in half with turkey and cheese) as I am reading this. It tasted great, but after only three small bites, I am full and uncomfortable. For some reason, eating turkey or chicken cold cuts rolled up with a slice of cheese and no bread is really nauseating and unenjoyable to me. But for now, bread is definitely still NOT going to work. I always try to make a little extra grilled chicken or fish at dinner and have some of that for lunch.< /p>

I was wondering the same thing...I am five going on six weeks out and I was wondering when I could try at least a bite of a roll or something...but if it feels me up too quickly it won't be worth it. Everything I eat feels me up quickly. I ate one egg for Breakfast and felt overly stuffed! Maybe I will try a roll at 3 months out or maybe even 6 months at the rate I'm going!

I don't handle plain bread well. It can swell in your stomach and it tends to make me nauseated. Toasted whole grain and rustic breads are better, but I never eat bread unless I'm on a hike or long bike ride or something very strenuous. When I do, it's usually half a large slice -- with Peanut Butter. YUM!

9 weeks out, attempting a bit of a sandwich

tracyinflorida

no bread for me this early in the game

at 8 months now - i don't usually find a need/desire to eat bread - i had a roll a couple of times at RedLobster yum yum

when ordering i said" please don't put the garlic butter on" - i love it that way. i had 2 bites, brought rest home, and finished over a couple of days period.

I know theres cheese on the roll, but..oh well - i decided i would live it up , knock my socks off, and go crazy :D

warm in microwave and its yummy the next day

watch the bread intake, if you can handle a little teeny bit, on a whim go for it ;)

I am 4 1/2 weeks small out and have had maybe a few tablespoons of rice, 6-8 pieces of Barilla Plus penne, and few bites of hash browns and a few pretzels dipped in tuna. I can't eat that much of any starch because it fills me up, triggers my carb brain, isn't appetizing like it used to be, and causes anxeity because I fear heading down the evil carb highway. I am super vigilant about the carbs I consume. I won't even try a piece of bread right now. It's just too filling and with such little room to fill, I'd rather be eating Protein and veggies.

At 7 1/2 weeks post-op, bread, Pasta, and rice are on my "do not eat" list. I'm so focused on Protein, I really have no desire for heavy starches/carbs. I'm enjoying being in ketosis too much to risk blowing it for the sake of some bread! :) I do eat 3 or 4 whole wheat crackers from time to time, with hummus or Laughing Cow spreadable cheese (low-fat only)...but even that is only rarely.

I am 7 weeks post op and the diet plan included whole grain bread (1 slice toasted) after 6 weeks post op

At almost a year out, I eat almost no bread. It makes me uncomfortably full and bread has been involved in all three of my sliming episodes. Considering that I used to make all of my family's bread, I was something of a bread lover, but now it's just not worth my trouble. I may have a bite here and there, but not often and never more than a bite. I thought I'd miss it more than I do, but it's a non-issue for me.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
