Anyone out there have trouble with consumption too much alcohol

Recommended Posts

Alcohol can definitely knock alot of good work you've done with eating right in the head. I'll never forget tracking my calories on www.fitday.com. I was so proud of my success one day in my eating behaviors.. then, I got on a plane and for some reason I decided I would take advantage of the free champagne in first class. I got home, entered my intake for the day, it was all awesome UNTIL I entered that champagne. It UNDID all that I had done due to the carbs. :D

I still have a margarita on occasion - probably too many occasions. LOL, but I have to make a deal with myself every single time that this is MY CHOICE to undo everything I've done toward losing/maintaining my weight loss. I guess it comes down to priorities, really. I wish you luck in making those decisions!

I am not a big drinker, but I do like some wine on the weekends. WELL, last night I was watching 2 weight loss shows, and one show the nutritionist, todl the woman, that drinking one glass of wine was like consuming the equivalent of sugar/carbs of 8, count them 8 tablespoons of sugar.

I just couldn't even believe it.

This just after I consumed one LARGE glass of wine.

So that does it for me. I am done with alcohol for a long while.

I really don't enjoy it that much anyway.

Also, a friend of mine who imbibes much more than i do, who is also banded, said the same thing. Her weight came to a big standstill for months and is now giving it up for a while.

So do what you need to do to get where you need to get.

I am not giving it up forever, but will never forget that woman spooning 8 Tbsps of sugar into a wine glass.

Cheers!

I really enjoy a glass or two of wine before dinner every night. It loosens everything up and I can really enjoy eating without pain. However, I do have to watch the empty calories and find I do tend to drink too much when I'm out socially or at a party. The one or two glasses I have each night has not affected my weight loss thus far though.

I have a question about drinking..... My Dr told me that I will not be able to drink like I used to at all he said you will get drunk ALOT quicker than before. I haven't had any alcohol since my band on August 8th but I'm going on vacation at the end of the month and me and my sister are planning on going out and I know I'll end up drinking but I'm wondering if I'm gonna be a light weight now LOL

Yeah I'm happy to hear that! I havn't had a drink in awhile and I've had alot of bumps along the road since my band so I'm really looking forward to a much needed vacation. I know I'll want to sip on a few drinks poolside and can't wait to go out to the clubs.

I recently had a couple of drinks made from 1 Cup Vodka 1 Cup Rum 1 Cup Cranberry juice and 1 Can of unsweetned Pinapple juice oh my gosh it was so good but I couldn't come up with an idea of just how many calories were in an 8oz glass. I had two drinks and I was feeling like a very happy lady.:-)

Hi Pebbles,

Drinking doesn't bother me at all. I have had no problems ever with beer or any mixed drinks. I was expecting beer to be painful from what other ppl have said about carbonation hurting but it went down fine for me. I dont' get drunk any faster than before either(from what i can tell :grouphug: ) Enjoy going out at the clubs!!

i like to drink a few margaritas now and then, but i get too wasted too fast. so i can only have one. if i have two , im too buzzed. it also makes my restriction greater the next morning. it makes my band feel tight. so i have to be careful. my tolerance is very low. i work out and i dont want too many wasted calories, but i still like to have a drink with friends now and then. i think no booze until after your first fill. make sure you are all healed to prevent problems.

I have a caution for you on drinking. Prior to surgery, I drank pretty rarely, but took Vicodin for back pain twice a month. Since surgery, if I take pain meds or drink alcohol, I get jittery and agitated. The last time I had a glass of wine, my friend was talking to me on the phone and noticed it in my voice. He suggested maybe it was the result of the extra estrogen from losing so much fat. I did some searching online, and it turns out alcohol can suddenly raise estrogen levels by quite a bit (like double), and too much estrogen can make you anxious and jittery. It isn't too horrible, but it makes me avoid drinking. The calories never affected my weight loss.

Have fun on your vacation!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
