I live in the Vegas area (Henderson) and will have surgery with Dr Aceves on 8/31. I've worked with physicians in this area for almost 6 years. I've met your surgeon and he is excellent. I didn't know he was doing the sleeve now. I thought he just did band and rny. There are very few wls surgeons in the area I would trust, but he is definitely one of them. The biggest complaint I've heard about him is that he turns most of the aftercare over to his team. That makes sense to me cause well, he's a surgeon. He can do what he does best and leave the aftercare to those who do what they do best. But some patients are kind of hurt by that.

My ins doesn't cover wls so I'm go to Mexico with Dr Aceves. I have to be honest, if I had wls coverage and my ins didn't work with someone like Dr Atkinson I would self-pay anyway.

Hello, I live in Las Vegas and was sleeved almost 7 months ago by Dr. Soong. I can tell you it was the best decision I ever made but it has also been a struggle to get use to eating right, drinking enough Water and exercising. I have lost a total of 70 pounds to date and it feels like my body has been in a stall for the past 2 months.

Do you ever go to the support groups on Tuesdays? I find them very helpful!!

No, I've never been to any of the support groups. I thought about going but never did. Have you went to any?

I have gone to a few of them and find them very helpful. I am actually going to one tomorrow night at 6:00 with Doctor Atkinson for the Sleeve and Bypass patients.

Is it ok to go if you haven't been sleeved YET? Do you have to sign up for them or can you just walk in? I'm scheduled for 10-22 and want to see as much up front as I can.

You just walk right on in. No appointment or signing up is necessary. If you end up coming tonight and want to talk to me, I will be sitting towards the front. I am wearing a muti color dress and black wrap with my hair in a ponytail.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
