Help: Did Your Preop Diet Make You Sick?

Recommended Posts

I only have 3 days to go on the preop liquid Meal Replacement and I feel very sick. I haven't thrown up but feel like I am going to. Did anyone else experience this? I am also experiencing back pain in the evenings. But only in the evenings. Thanks in advance.

I've been on the pre-op diet 13 days, and yes, in the beginning I felt a little nausea. I think that I (not a big meat eater) was not used to the concentrated levels of Protein. It didn't last more than a few days, though.

I think it is the increased Protein Nd very low carbs you are eating. I hope you feel better soon!

I too felt the nausea. Lots of nausea but never threw up. Also was accompanied by headache.

No, but I sure was hungry, seemed like every other commercial on TV was for some delicious snack or incredible restaurant deal too :)

Stick with it, you'll feel better post-op and get a jump start on your weight loss.

I felt awful the first couple of days, but once I made it past day three, I was fine. Are you making sure to get plenty of fluids in?

Yep!

But I didn’t do meal replacement I picked the milk diet and learnt just how lactose intolerant I was!

Didn’t drink milk before not as a drink didn’t do milkshakes etc just some cheese now and again so never knew sure found out!

I was told to stop immediately as your body will be in bad shape for the op and was told to go on the food option.

If you’re in major pain and feeling sick you need to tell them it could be an issue and not have the desired effect of the pre op diet and they could have a alternative option for you.

I thought it could be not enough fluids so I making sure I am getting them in today. However, I also have not been getting in the five shakes that are required because they are just making me sick. Two more days to go. I hope I am not messing up my insides by not drinking enough of them.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
