Gas (Maybe) After Eating?

Recommended Posts

Hi Fellow Sleevers! Hope you're having a wonderful Wednesday.

Ok, it's definitely getting much easier for me to eat but I have a question. Does anyone have an issue where when you eat something you immediately start getting little air bubbles coming up your throat? Maybe it's not air bubbles but that's what it feels like. Hopefully someone understands my description and can help me out! LOL

Even though the food is going down much better, it's annoying that I feel like I need to burp immediately but can't.

I have the same feeling. And lots of tummy noises - lots. Eventually (30-45 seconds later) I usually can get the burp to come up, but it is small. I ususally start to slow down when I feel that way. It does not happen everytime. When I get the I need to burp feeling and can't, it is slow down time...

Hi Paige,

Today is my first day back to work. I am still having diffculty eating, drinking.. I have lots of gas & need to take prilosec everyday. I have never had heartburn issues before & I woud eat lots of junk!

I am not getting enough Protein or Water down.. I try to do my Protein shake in the am but it still comes back up. I can barely do 4 ozs.. I then had some coffee & can only do a few ozs..

Hot tea seems to do ok with me.. I try string cheese & can barely get that down.

I am having regrets everyday...........

I have lost about 18 lbs which is good.

Deb, I'm so sorry you are having regrets. I did for a while but I've able decided it won't do me any good so just go with it. I really am getting better every day. It's sad that I can't drink a whole cup of coffee anymore but at least I'm getting some of it down.

I'm the same with the prilosec. I have to take at least 1 a day, sometimes too if the acid is getting really bad. I can eat about 4 spoonfuls of whatever I'm trying. I learned that Wendy's chili goes down good except for the air bubbles I posted about on here.

My first day back was yesterday and I'm telling ya now, I needed the 3 weeks off. I could actually handle another 2 weeks!

I drank a Protein shake for the first time since surgery and it went down fine. I got in a little over half this morning for Breakfast and that was a huge plus for me. I'm not getting in my Water or Protein so I'm expecting to be completely bald by the fall. Oh well, there's only so much I can do and I'm not forcing it or I'll just end up throwing up.

The only Protein Shake I have been able to stomach is the Premier Protein shakes found at Sam's Club. They're already mixed and taste pretty darn good compared to some other mess I tried. I put them in the freezer so they're super cold and then drink with a straw. I know we weren't supposed to use one at first but it's the only way for me to get anything down. They say it isn't a problem as long as it's not bothering me. Why not try that? It may help a little.

I'm thinking of making some tuna salad for lunch tomorrow so I'll let you know how that goes down. Hang in there! I keep telling myself it gets better and it really has considering.

But oh what I wouldn't give for a salad from Chipotle right about now!

I think Im just having a bad day & am afraid Im not getting enough fluids in!

Im also a revison from lap band so things may be affecting me differently. It is not so much missing the food I used to eat, it just being hard to eat anyhting right now. I do know it will get better, I just have to hang in there.

I do have little bubbles like you. Sometimes it feels like it stops right below my sternum for about 10-15 seconds and then it bubble bubble bubble goes down. It's usually because I've taken too big of a sip. The slower I go, the better it settles.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
