Seltzer...anyone Else Love It?

Recommended Posts

Had my NUT consult today and she was so matter of fact about what was off limits forever including...seltzer - really? I am still preop but I love to sip it all day. Do the bubbles really create problem?

From a Post op person, yup, its a problem. I miss soda and beer so much. But carbonation hurts. I guess it can over time stretch out your sleeve too. But aside from that, it hurts. Whenever I'm around someone drinking beer I always ask for a sip. It tastes good in my mouth but Not so good on the way down. The other day I thought to myself maybe I could drink a little bit of soda if I take teeny tiny sips. Diet pepsi. It was hot and that used to quench my thirst, but even the smallest sips still hurt on the way down. So overall I miss it, yet as soon as I taste it and swallow it, I don't anymore.

I suffer severe Migraines and carbonation always helped me with my migraines. I used to drink Mountain Dew or Coke only when I had a Migraine, I'm not a big pop drinker. I switched to Zero Flavored Seltzer Water. It worked just as well without the sugar. Having to quit that was something a bit hard on me, because along with it, I am not allowed Excedrin Migraine any longer, which is the only medication that helps me.

You will read that people state they drank pop up to surgery and even diet pop right after surgery. Some will say there is no proof it stretches out your stomach.

You are going to have to decide whether or not you are willing to trust your Doctor's advice, considering (s)he will be taking out 85% of your stomach.

For most of us, this is not a diet, this is a way of life. I can tell you some day I would like a sip of champagne or a sip of beer. It won't be for a long long time, until I am completely to goal.

I like coffee and I gave that up to, but I sure like the way this feels. I really am not willing to take a chance on stretching my sleeve at this point. I am sure some day when I'm at goal and I am really sure of myself I will allow myself a sip of champagne or something with seltzer, but I'm using this time to break anything that is a form of habit that doesn't benefit me nutritionally.

I am three weeks post op and yesterday I decided to let the diet tonic Water sit and lose its fiz, go flat.. Then added ice and lime juice and I had no problem with it all and is so refreshing in the heat.

No offense.. but doesn't it just become Water after the carbination is gone?

Why would you consider it? Besides the obvious carbonation, there are like a million sugars in soda! Use this time to cut the soda addiction ( if that is the issue). I love icy cold Pepsi, but I love my sleeve more.

Some things you just can't have. It is a life changing surgery, and if that means giving up carbonation to be sure that my sleeve is healthy, then I'm on board. It is a little bit of a bummer, but I'd much rather be thin.

Then added ice and lime juice and I had no problem with it all and is so refreshing in the heat. DIET tonic water...has no sugar and no calories. Citric juices and quinine which helps muscle spasms. It is FLAT and has no carbonation. Leave the bottle open, wait and walla no carbonation. Very refreshing and in three weeks I have lost 20 lbs. What bothers one, won't affect another. It works for me and might not for someone else.

Not sure if it makes you feel better, but I LOVED it pre op (not to mention diet coke and beer). and haven't touched anything carbonated post. I'm 10 weeks out and, frankly, haven't missed it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
