Hello,

I am a newly sleeved 34yo LPN in MO surgery date of 2/11/2015. I am down 20lbs but am not sure I am doing everything I need to do to maximize my weight loss as I have not loss any weight since the first week of my surgery. In fact gained two pounds this week. I am not eating much as I mostly eat about 6 oz of chicken salad and 5 to 10 melba small bite size crackers per day. I drink about 48 oz of crystal light per day. I just started working out yesterday in the gym for 30 minutes. I am afraid of not being successfule after I took my family and myslf throught this procedure. Please help...not sure what to do now the procedure is done...

I think you are doing everything correctly. I had mine done 1/28. I lost 25lbs then stopped and stayed at a standstill for a week and a half. Then this last week, lost another 3.8lbs. From what I've read, that's all normal. Just hang in there and see what the next week or two bring, but sounds like you're doing great!

I'm newly sleeved too. Sleeved 2/3. I've been at a standstill too. For about a week now. Your body is holding onto as much as it can. We will start losing again!

I think you are not eating enough. If you do not take in sufficient calories you will put your body into a starvation metabolism. Up your calories and read about metabolism. Work your program.

I'm not sure if I understand your situation correctly. Are you just 15 days post-op? I am still pre-op but my surgeon and nutritionist have given me my packet for my diet from step down, my liquid 2 week pre-op prep, then Day 1-3 Post-Op, Days 3-7, 7-14, 14-21, etc up to the 8th week which is the first time I get to have solid food. At that time I get to have pea sized soft foods. I must wait one minute between each bite. My surgeon may be conservative. He has never had a patient with a leak. Do you make your chicken salad with mayo? I no longer eat high fat foods or breads and I am pre-op. Also it seems really early for you to be doing anything but walking. Again I can only go by my surgeons guidelines. Despite all that your weight loss is incredible!!!! Twenty pounds in 2 weeks! Your body is stabilizing. Many people have said they gain in the first few weeks due to all the IV fluids. Don't be too hard on yourself. I'm sure you will fo great. You should have a follow up appointment real soon and the MD will allay all your fears.

I've been a RN for 4 weeks now (SO HAPPY I passed NCLEX on my first attempt, that test was exhausting!!), and my surgery is scheduled for April 6th!! I'm still working in the LTC/skilled nursing facility where I was a LPN, until I finish my BSN or otherwise manage to get my foot in the door at one of the local hospitals. But I am so excited for the surgery and to have completed my RN program!!

@@lynneanne thanks for the feedback. I am following my doctors orders to the letter. I am grateful that he is not as conservative and has such an impeccable history. I was cleared to use the elliptical and walk at my first week check up appointment. I think that you are right when you mention that I am likely in the first few week stall situation that others mention on the site. I was glad to read about this stall yesterday as it gave me renewed confidence that I am not just doomed to be fat! lol...thanks again and good luck with your surgery!

Hi everyone from WA! I've been a RN for almost 9 years now. I started in oncology/medical then we switched to acute care. I just finished all my training and certification to insert PICC lines (super exciting). I'm also finishing up my BSN now too. I was sleeved in TJ, Mexico 5 weeks ago by Dr Ariel Ortiz. Did my surgery on a Friday and returned to work on Wednesday. The ladies I work with were super supportive and made sure I did no lifting that week. I haven't had any complications from surgery any the only issue I really deal with is Constipation. I'm down 34 pounds so far and am currently in my first very frustrating stall. I feel awesome and so energetic. This is the best thing I have ever done got myself!

Hi Ladies!

I am brand new to the site--

I am a registered nurse for 4 years now! I am working in an LTACH-- a long term acute care hospital. I work nights and we are short frequently so I have 6 patients about half the time (even though we are suppose to be at 5 for nights)

I am meeting with a surgeon for my first consult tomorrow!

I have already talked with my insurance and have the requirements which include 6 months supervised diet with MD of course and Psych evaluation-- luckily my preventative coverage covers visits for Bariatric treatment as well as nutrition counseling (unlimited) for patients with BMI of 30 or higher--- I am 47.5 so certainly meet that requirement!

I am nervous about how long recovery will be! My job is hard (as you all know) and won't be able to do it if there is a lifting restriction-- I don't want to tell my coworkers about it... I do have STF so I was hoping in 2-3 weeks I could go back with out any restrictions.

I am excited to start my pre-op journey!

I look forward to talking with you all more!

Good luck! You'll do great! I only took 5 days off but would def say take as much time as you can! I was drained so bad each day I was worthless once home!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
