Doc Appointment Tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow I am headed to see my primary doc to discuss weight loss surgery... I was already denied by insurance because its not in their policy so I've decided to go to Mexico... I'm not sure what I'm worried about but it makes me nervous that he won't "approve"... I want him to tell me this is the right move even though I know his opinion doesn't matter and in my heart I know it's time for a change...

November last year I married the love of my life... November this year I hope to be on the road to a new healthier me!!! Anyone have a nov surgery date? Mine is probably nov 17th!!

Hi! My name is Yvette and I came across your post.... I know how u felt when the insurance company denies u my response was that I didn't weigh enough to get the surgery. I as well headed to Mexico, and currently are going through the process. The only advice is that just really do your research on the doctor. Look him up and get his stats regarding his surgerys. And if u can come across a patient or two is even better. Wish u well and just know this survey is not only health related but it's our inner happiness. Mine is in November as well 

In Tijuana, right across the border. I attend to Mi Doctor Hospital, my Dr. Is Savalsa. He was recommended through a friend and he is fabulous. My situation is more complicated because this would be the second time I have a weight lose procedure done. I had the gastric band about 4 yrs ago. Worked wonderful but developed complication with my band, nothing complicated but a one in a million type of a situation. So in a week or so he is removing my lap band, since I have a huge fear of returning to my original weight of 300 pound, in November I get the sleeve. some family members think Im crazy for doing it a second time. But no one but u or I can know what it feels to be unhappy with our weights. Only u can know why you do it. To me it was a life changer, I always thought I was happy but when I changed my life with the lap band I realized how unhappy I really was. I'm excites to do it all over again and even reach a new weight goal. Just remember this changes your life for the better don't let kissing weight become an obsecionl because u will not your process. Take plenty of pictures of before to motivate u during your process, and weekly ones to view your process. I made a scrap book so u can view your rebirth to a new life. Hope to hear more from u and wish u all the amazing luck in the world during your process. Yvette!

How did things go with your doctor?

I encourage you to research, research, research your options on doctors. And contact your insurance company, see if they will cover complications/after care/anything that comes up down the road related to this procedure since it is being done out of the country. If there is a possibility of having to cover any of those things yourself in the future, you want to at least have a heads up about it.

My doc visit went really well. He was very encouraging and actually I have decided to push off surgery. He wasn't against me going out of the country, however, encouraged me to start with step 1 and 2 instead of jump to 3 and 4. I totally see his point of view and he is willing to help me on the journey. I joined weight watchers and am going to give that a go.... in a few months I will reevaluate and see where I'm at and how well I'm doing. If I can do this without surgery, I will. If not, I will look back into surgery. Thanks for asking! :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
