Recommended Posts

I'm live in the Rio Grande Valley and soo hot here too! I can't believe I'm not sweating the pounds away! The only exercise I can do around here is walk in the stores.

We should be sweating them away! The threat of rain the last couple of days have made it extra humid.

Ohio weather has been awful also!! And mall walking is a great idea! I actually think my local mall is used more for people walking than for shopping! Especially in the mornings..lol.

Something I did the other day was tried to walk around the pool (while inside the Water of course) it was kind of hard because of all the people I had to get around, and once I hit 5 foot it was more like hopping..lol. But it was fun! lol..

Good luck! Hopefully things will start to cool down! I'm in Ohio we'll have about 2 weeks of fall coming up before winter! (Maybe)

Texas girl here too. I am fortunate enough to have joined a gym. If you can't do that, I would suggest walking at the mall or early, early mornings. Sparkpeople.com has some workout videos on their site that you could pull up on your computer and do in your living room if you have room.

Good luck, it's darn hot!

I live in a master planned apartment community that has several gyms I can use and do, but I want to swim while I can lol. Part of the appeal of moving to this community is also the trails they have that go through a nature preserve, so I do try and take walks when the heat isn't too killer.

There are 22 community centers spread throughout Tarrant County. The family membership is $40/year. Many of the community centers have a small gym. In the two that I frequent, it is mostly older people. They don't let kids on the equipment. I don't like most gyms because of all the buff / skinny people, but these gyms are so small, they attract people of all sizes. I feel very comfortable there.

Before surgery, I was trying to walk in Fort Worth, and I couldn't make it very far. I was a little disappointed with how little I could do. In June, we went to Ireland where the weather was in the 70s every day. I could walk for miles. It made me realize that I needed to get out of the heat (at least for now), so I could establish a good routine.

I put some shoes in my car and go to the gym in my work clothes immediately after work. It has worked well for me for the last two months. They even have some free yoga classes during the week. They also have other classes that you can pay ~30$/month.

Plano has those centers too, but in my area they are more packed with people than the gyms. I was a member of Planet Fitness which is a judgement free gym with inexpensive memberships. 20/month gets you unlimited gym access, unlimited tanning, and one free guest a day. The location the gym was in raised their rent so they moved too far for me to go. There are a few in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex and worth checking out. I miss that gym. I just want to be outside for a change. I was going to Gold's but I got tired of being cooped up in a building. The heat stinks, but I like swimming or walking in the pool. I got up at 6 and took my dogs on a walk along the trails this morning, it wasn't so bad.

Well... Thanks for all of the suggestions!!! This heat is killer! Curses north Texas!!! My husband and kids have an Xbox 360 they fight over, the other day we came across a trial of Zumba... Download and bought the actual version the next day... Did it for the first time and made it a full 9 minutes before I thought I was going to die!!! (that's 9 minutes more than I would have done 68 lbs ago)... Oh and I gave myself asthma (something I haven't dealt with in a long time!)

I call that a successful workout... Now for the motivation to get up and do it again tomorrow!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
