Hey all.

I am 11 days out. All is going well with one exception. I can not sleep to save my life. I feel good, I can get comfortable. I just can't fall asleep. I am wondering if this was a problem with anyone else? I have not taken anything as I am following the post op instructions to a T.

Any input or thoughts?

Thanks troops!

I had the same problem. I had shoulder surgery 2 months earlier. I rested most of the day so I felt that was the contributing factor

hey newbie - 11 days post WLS - you deserve the title

i never had sleep problems - sorry this is going on with you.

not sure if you can attribute the lack of sleeping to WLS

maybe others can chime in with a better answer

wishing you have sweet dreams soon

Yes, same here at 2 1/2 weeks out. Insomnia is very common after surgery. You can search the forums here. During my first post op visit, my dr said to try over the counter melatonin or Tynelol PM. If that didn't worked, then he was going to prescribe me something. The second week, half of cup of Nyquil would knock me out. I havent tried my Dr's recommendations, as I haven't been able to buy them. As soon as I do, I'll keep you posted. But the good news is that the veterans here say that it will pass too. Congrats on your sleeve.

Congrats on your surgery! I had sleep apnea for the first 2To3 weeks. Now at 6 weeks out I am sleeping like a baby. I didn't opt to take any pills because I avoided pills due to all the Vitamins and med I was taking so I waited it out.

hmmmm learn something new everyday

when i came home after WLS i had some aching problems with my stiches, lasted 3 nights, so by the end of the day i fell asleep easily-sleeping was never a problem

usually woke up a couple of tiimes at night (bathroom break) but i had no trouble falling back to sleep, that was just me -

i should listen to my words - we're all different in things for ie sleep

sweet dreams

I could not sleep for the first 2 weeks after surgery. I thought that maybe I was not expending enough energy during the day so I increased my activity and started sleeping better.

Do you use a CPAP Machine for your apnea?

I have had trouble sleeping in my bed. I have had to sleep in the recliner or in the other bed, which is one of the sleep numbers that you can sit up a bit. I am used to sleeping on my side, but every time I do it feels like my stomach is hanging or something, even putting a pillow under it doesn't really help. And when I do sleep I can only go about 4-6 hours without waking up with pain.

Did your physician okay anything to help sleep? If they say it's fine, maybe you could try some liquid benadryl?

I hope you start sleepin soon!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
