I did manage a few successful nights with CPAP, so I know it CAN work. Most of my nights would start out OK and then I would get leaks at the eyeballs that just would not quit, so I'd give up. Fortunately I've lost enough weight that I sleep through the night now anyway, so I know that losing weight works as well!

I used the darn thing again last night and this time I did have several leaks and that's why I had to keep waking up. It's very annoying. I am hoping that like you that by losing weight I can stop using the machine.

I had such a horrible night's sleep last night compared to the night with the CPAP. I am tired, groggy and achy. Maybe this is a good thing come of all this testing for the sleeve. I am looking forward to be well rested.

I'm glad the CPAP machine is working for you. How long have you used it for? Did it take long to get used to?

Well, that IS one of the goals of any WLS, and that's why most surgeons order a sleep study. If weight loss didn't make any difference, OSA would not be considered a comorbidity.

Update:

I had my appointment with the sleep study Dr. yesterday.

Took the machine back to them and they downloaded the chip and she said I had been successful at using it. She said that while using it went from 9.3 to a 1.3 which is very good. I really don't know what all the numbers mean. I just know that the 9.3 was the original result. I told her how uncomfortable the face mask was and she gave me the nose with the pillows mask. I get my machine in 10 days. I am hoping that it gets here sooner than that, as I see the surgeon on the 17th and I want to use it so that he can give me a surgery date.

I had severe sleep apnea used cpap for several years before VSG I CRAVED using it! Lol. I couldn't even nap w/o issues. Since VSG and 100lbweight loss no sleep apnea and no cpap! Now my husband says if I lay flat on my back I snore a little but at 58 who doesn't? Lol and I'd like to know how he could hear me over that freight train coming out of his mouth! Lol.

You are like ugh hate this to start with but when your used to it the quality of sleep is a million times better than without it that’s a major fact!

I would stop breathing and sit up then fall asleep instantly sitting up then wake up throw myself back and start all over again.

Not to mention being like a narcoleptic and just falling asleep all the time at my desk in the middle of typing or something and bam I am asleep, or having a conversation!

No joke I would be talking to someone and just go to sleep couldn’t stop myself from doing it either I was so bad.

Now I sleep fine like I did before no finny stuff no headaches no fuzzy head nothing just like before and its frigging great!

I was just like you. My husband says I used to stop breathing every 10 seconds. I was falling asleep while typing too. Got laughed at (there are some cruel, snarky women where I work). I think I almost lost my job over it all.

My CPAP didn't come until after the surgery. I never did get used to it. The first ***ht at home I pulled it off in my sleep. I woke up later and tried to put it on. No go - total panic. Happily the sleep apnea went away about 3 weeks post-op.

but i am glad i am off it now and sleeping normally lol

I am the world's only C-PAP lover. I have been on mine for about 8 years now. I am not gining it up for anything. I even have a special small version for travel. I am at about 1/2 way on the weight loss, but have no plans to get rid of the machine.

When I put that baby on, the world goes away. It makes a nice soft sound and just tells my body and brian... "Hey, the day is over - give it up - go to sleep" Otherwise I tend to be like a three year old, fighting sleep. But I put on the "face fan" and I am out like a light.

And for those of you that say the mask is not sexy, I have two comments.

1. I get my "sexy" done before I put on the face mask; and

2. Did you ever see "Top Gun" or "The Right Stuff," When I put my mask on I am a sexy fighter pilot or an astronaut... (I do realize that it is just in my head and that I am sure to my wife I look like a dog on a ventilator..... However, since most of the voices I hear are in my head, I figure if he is happy I am happy)

You made me laugh.

Thank you. I am hoping that when I lose the weight I too can be off the CPAP machine. The dr. said once I lose the weight I can be re tested for it.

I am glad the machine is working great for you. I am sure you feel so much better than before using it. I was hoping that I would feel good while using it and I felt the same way you did. But nope I didn't. Like I posted earlier it made me so tired, sleepy, cranky and with a headache. But I stuck with it because I had to. I am hoping that once I try the nose mask I will feel better and after surgery I can stop completely.

Now about the sexy...Hahahh! true, true get the sexy outta' the way and you can get an even better sleep.

Thanks for your reply.

Those nose things are the only thing that saved that sleep therapist during the sleep study. I didn't mean to, but when she put the face mask on I went into full blown panic. It was like having a hurricane strapped over your face. The nose things are gross, but slightly more tolerable.

I haven't tried them yet until I get my machine.

But yes having the face mask was bad. It kept hitting my eye even have a small bruise to prove it.. That is why the Dr. didn't even hesitate to change it.

When I was being fitted for my first one and they do that test the first time its on your face OH MY GOD the feeling it was like I was being suffocated!

The panic rising inside me and when you open your mouth and it all whooshes out you just want to rip that thing off and take massive lungfuls of air!

I didn’t but yeah first ***ht of at home I had to mentally tell my self not to freak out to just breath I ramped up for 30mins first time and spent most of that time controlling my mind and breathing to not freak out!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
