Whoa, Shauna, I'm reeling from how quickly you got your lapband. I'm considering cash pay as well, but your story just kinda freaked me out. I knew cash pays could go faster than insurance-bill, but I was thinking, I'll get all the preliminary paperwork done and maybe even get to pick my date. Yours sounds like a story of, "Don't let that cash pay get away." LOL. Now, I'm a little scared . . . hyperventilating a little bit even.

I think it all depends on the patient and how quick they want to move. I went to the seminar on 7/11, had my psych eval 7/18, my initial consult with the doctor 7/25, and surgery on 8/14. When my surgeon approved me for surgery he asked, "How does two weeks from now sound, or do you want to wait longer."

Losin',

At least you got a few inhales and exhales in before surgery. LOL. I'd be okay with the amount of turnaround time you had prior to surgery. I think it's just my mental make-up. I just wanna have some more time to get settled with the idea of surgery before I have the surgery. Two weeks would be good.

LOL, don't let my story of how fast my surgery happened scare you. I have been researching WLS for years and I billed for a bariatric surgeon also. I was very well aware of the risks and everything involved. Being a cash pay patient is nice because you don't have to wait for an insurance approval. Once my fiance and I were financially able to afford the surgery, I was ready to have it done. We're getting married in January so dieting has been a big priority for me. But they are not going to force you to have surgery before you are ready. Depending on who does your surgery, you should pretty much be able to set it up at your convenience....

Quilter~

My surgery happened so fast that I am still kinda in shock. I had the seminar on a Wednesday, consult, dietician, psych and labs on Friday and surgery on Monday. Good luck chicka!!

Mine happened really fast too, I contacted the surgy center and within 2 weeks I was banded. lol. I had been thinking about doing it for a long time but from the point of contacting the doctor, going to seminar and having it done it was 2 weeks! No regrets here, I almost chickened out though. But im really glad I didn't.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
