Anyone Use Lortab Liquid For Post-Op Pain?

Recommended Posts

My dr. gave me a prescription for Lortab liquid for the post-op pain. I was wondering if it was effective and how much did you pay for it. I have no prescription insurance and was curious if I should send it through Canada or have it filled here at the pharmacy. Thanks.

I used Lortab - thank God! Without it, I wouldn't have slept for an entire week after surgery. I paid $20 for the generic version, Hydrocodone /APAP.

I would definitely get the Rx filled, but you may not need it. I had pain meds the day of surgery, but by that evening, I didn't need anything. They gave me a sleeping pill that night. I flew home the next day 5 hours in the air, followed by a 5 hour drive, and I only needed a shot of liquid Tylenol. I was very lucky, and did not experience much pain at all. I hope you are as lucky. But by all means have it on hand!! Like has been pointed out, it never hurts to have something like that on hand anyway since we have issues with pills now!!!

Best of Luck to you!!! I hope your surgery and your recovery are smooth, and easy!!!

I also took it after surgery - it would make me sleep til like 10:00 the next morning!! My hubby called it my "juice" LOL! I cannot attest to the cost though, as I have insurance coverage. It's GOOD STUFF!!

Thanks everyone! I called Walgreens here and the price was around 23.00, so not too bad. I was just curious how much, I know some of these medications are outrageous. My dr. also prescribed Prevacid SoluTabs (they dissolve in the mouth) and I know they are expensive, as I have taken the capsule form for many years.

I also used the liquid Lortab, and it was great for pain...also needed liquid Gaviscon or something like that. Baby tummy drops worked great (simethicone).

I had the liquid Lortab, too. It tasted AWFUL. For less severe post-op pain, try adult strength liquid Tylenol or Excedrin melt-in-your-mouth tabs. I have also used the chewable Tylenol for older children and double the dosage.

PS...the Tylenol liquid tastes yuk too, but it works great, and very fast!

It sure does taste awful but when I picked up my prescriptions it was 5, 16 oz. bottles with refills. I thought my God who could ever drink 5. I drink one and have the rest but my daugher got an abscess tooth and gook 2 of them home with her. I still have one that's never been opened. For this month I had him give me the pills as I take them for my ruptured discs.

It's not expensive but I don't think it's as good as the pills either. My liquid is 7.5 hydrocodone and my pills are 10mg.

Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
