My surgery date is 8/13 and I'm on my 2nd day of liquids. I'm allowed to have a small meal under 300 calories for dinner, or a lean cuisine type of meal...but I'm so hungry! I feel like I'm extra hungry just KNOWING I can't eat. I just keep reminding myself that I chose this, and I can't wait for the end result! Good luck to you & everyone else with their upcoming surgeries! We can do it!!

Hello everyone' date='

I'm starting my pre-op diet tomorrow and I am dreading it to say the least  . I feel like I breaking up with a boyfriend. I've had a food "bucket list" and even though I have had pretty much all of my favorites it still seems weird.

How does everyone else feel who is about to or has started their pre-op diet, it makes it easier to think that I am doing this for surgery and THAT much closer to making it to the loser's bench! :)

Anywho, I wanted to share an app (android) I came across that I LOVE, it counts down the days, it's called Days Left. I've attached a screen shot of my homescreen below, I set up one for my liquid diet and another for surgery. [/quote']

I only had to do Clear Liquids the day before surgery

On my pre op diet for the 2 nd time. Had to reschedule my surgery because after day 7 of 10 the first time, I had a complete mental/ hunger/ emotional/ scared as hell someone is going to cut off half my stomach breakdown. I cried, i felt like a complete failure, i yelled at my husband for helping me "do this to myself." Then i ate and felt worse, emotionally. It's been a month since then and I cant stop thinking about the surgery. I keep telling myself that people do the surgery all the time and I will be fine, but though I have rescheduled my surgery and am doing the pre op diet again, I'm not sure that I am convinced that my MENTAL status will be OK (even though the shrink says im fine and it's natural to be scared)I'm on day 2 for the second time and really trying my absolute hardest to not have another breakdown. Has this happened to anyone? If so, how did you get through it? I'm scared! Any words of advise/encouragement is really appreciated. I really just need someone to be strait up with me. please and thank you.

@shan1201 - no idea what time yet. I guess they will call me on Friday or Sunday to let me know what time I have to be there. I'm really hoping it will be early morning so we can just get this show on the road!! We are so close!! August is totally going to be our month!! Good luck and keep me posted on your progress!!

@MsDallasSleever Whoo hoo!!! - hope you are doing well!! Thinking of you!!

@JGo - It is so natural to be scared. It's a huge undertaking and with no really knowing exactly how it is going to effect us specifically, we are going in kind of blind. I would suggest taking some quiet time for yourself and reflecting on what it is you really want in your life. I'm not sure what sort of struggles you've had w/ being overweight, but I know for me, I've mastered losing weight yet have never been able to keep it off. I want to live the next part of my life w/out all the aches and pains that go along with carrying around so much extra baggage. I'm 5'3 and at my heaviest was 289 pounds. I lost 120 lbs on Weight Watchers years ago and over time, put back on half of that. I had the band in 2008 and lost about 45 lbs, of which I have put back on about half. I cannot do this up and down routine anymore. It's tiring and mentally draining. So having this surgery, removing the band and having the sleeve is just something I am willing to do for myself.

Hang in there. If you believe you are committed to this decision, you will find a way to get past the fear. And having this board is an excellent place to come to for support.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
