Last Meal The Night Before Surgery?

Recommended Posts

But for me....its more of a mental thing I guess. I am a all or nothing person (sometimes that is no so good) and if I have it in my head that I am going to eat this humongus, fatty, greasy meal before surgery it gets my head out of the place it is now which is not eating just because it tastes good.

I agree with you Misty - if you're anything like me - if I haven't had the food for a while - I can live without it - but if you eat that kind of food then you just crave it for a few days. Why make it harder on yourself when the next day you have to just go back on the liquid diet? For me - the mental part is sooooo important.

And whose to say that you can't enjoy a bite or 2 in a year after you've lost all your weight.

Wow, I'm really stunned you were able to eat all that the night before surgery. I had no idea. I've been told no, no, no, SERIOUS no by my surgeon and his staff.

My surgeon in Las Vegas advised us the afternoon before that we could do whatever we wanted for dinner the night before surgery. He just put a limitation on red meat.

My husband and I went to the macaroni Grill and ordered two of the smaller appetizers, had some bread, ate less than 1/2 of my entree and we both ordered dessert (we ate about 1/2). It was a great meal, we just didn't eat to the point of stuffing ourselves.

So, while I was given a free pass which was nice after a two week pre-op diet, I really was surprised at how little I ate. I savored every bite. It was wonderful.

Hi there I'm in Vegas as well with surgery scheduled for 12/23. Who was your surgeon and when did you get sleeved?

Hey, Tahoe.

I was sleeved on 11/14 by Dr. Umbach in Las Vegas (Blossom Bariatrics).

I will be on my liquid diet for 2 weeks starting Oct 28th. The night before that I plan on having a favorite meal. I wouldn't

do it the night before surgery though. Doesn't sound like a good idea.

I am on a clear liquid diet (suggested by my bariatric nurse at the hospital, not requested by my doctor) the day before surgery. That is tomorrow. So no "last meal" for me. Although I am considering having a spoonful of roasted garlic hummus tonight. (Of all the things to crave, I go back and forth on the pre-op diet from wanting a pickle, to craving hummus, or dying for just one bite of meat, like just one piece of shrimp!)

I just came back from a 7-day cruise and all I wanted was some spaghetti for dinner tonight... No food after midnight and no liquids after 5am.... Surgery is at 1130am tomorrow... Dr is in Pittsburgh, PA

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
