How Long Till The Weight Loss Kicks In?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 7/9. When I came home I was 212lbs, I went down a pound but it came back. Is this normal? When will the weight start to come off? It has to start, I'm living on protien shakes LOL but I thought I would have seen something by now.

It takes a few weeks as your body is in the healing mode and you still have internal swelling due to the injury to your stomach. As the swelling goes down, your body will release those fluids. Don't worry...it will come off.

I had my surgery on the 10th. I was lost 8 pounds on the pre op diet (I weighed myself the morning I went to the hospital). The day I got home from the hospital, I gained back the 8 pounds because they constantly pump you with fluids. I weighed myself again this morning and I am down a total of 15 pounds. It will happen. Some people are slower losers, some are quick. In the past, I have been a very slow loser so I expect this rapid weight loss to slow down. As long as the scale is going down, I am okay with that. You will lose weight if you follow all your doctor recommendations.

The weight will come off. Please be sure to keep yourself hydrated and get in the Protein. allow your body time to heal. I went into a 6 week weight loss stall. I was so discouraged. However, I knew this for sure that I had overcome the biggest challenge and that was getting the operation done. Try not to eat anything outside of what is approved by your physician. Stay away from any sugary or too salty items. The weight will come off, you have a tool to assist you with portion size. Now all you have to do is make healthier protein fortified food choices. Make sure you set up an account online to track your food intake when you start eating food. Get in lots of Water and be encouraged the weight will come off. Also do not discount the inches loss. During my 6 week stall my pants became more and more baggy. You will succeed and stay connected with others who have been where you are and understand your struggles. This site is a God send. :) :) :)

Hi Renee! I had surgery 7/9 too.

My weight morning of surgery was 197. I gained 8 lbs in the hospital and just got back to 197 this morning.

Hang in there. It's going to happen for us too! :)

I was getting worried too. I went into surgery 7/9 at 208.5 and came home 7/10. On 7/11 I weighed 205.8. I was so happy!!. Then I lost another 3 1/2 pounds in the next two days. But the last two days, I've stalled out. But all of you have been very reassuring. I'm having a little more pain since Friday so it's probably some swelling. Thanks y'all, I'll just stay the course. :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
