I'm having surgery on a Friday. I will only have ten days off (maximum). I have a seated/secretarial job. Did anybody feel they needed more than this?

I'm not telling my boss about surgery. The idiot has no filter between mouth/brain and I can't stand him. So, I"m taking all my vacation for this. Not my first choice but even though I don't have tell why i'm taking sick leave, as long as i have a doctors note, he will ask. He's an attorney and should know better.

Well, Im no help on the experience side because my sleeve is 8/3 (also in mx) but I am doing the exact same thing. I have an office job, do have to walk up stairs to get to my office...but I can make that only once a day at first.

I feel from what I have read, I will be ok.....so glad to know we are in the same situation and would like to see responses!

Everyone will say everyone is different. I am 7 days out and could go back to work at a desk job no problem. I drove 2 1/2 hours to my daughter's doc appt today, then spent 4 hours at the mall (she's 17), and then drove 2 1/2 hours home. Yes I'm tired...but no more than I would have been before surgery. I'm a teacher so I have until August 1st to go back to work.

I went back to work on day 10. O also have an office job. I took a hearing pad for pain and still took my pain meds in the mornings znd when Zi got home. I went back last Thursday. Today I had to lesve early but I think I overdid it last night running errands. As far as being at work and sitting I think you will be fine. Just expect to be slower at your job for a while and you might hdve some brain fog. Mine is getting better.

Hmmmm. my boss has no patience for brain fog .... mostly because he "does no wrong" and I need to remember everything for him.

Worse case, he fire's me. I've already quit once this year. I just dont feel like dealing with his crap.

There is no one set answer to when you are fit to go back to work. You just had major surgery and your tummy has to heal, you must feel a lot better IMO before you go back to work.

Some people take 3 days off to heal and they feel fine, others could take 3 months, or somewhere in between. You really should only go back when you feel your best.

just cuz you have a sit down job, doesn't mean you won't feel sick and possibly nautious or whatever. sorry, don't mean to make scare you, but its a fact with any surgery

If you'd rather not use vacation time, get that note from your dr. and say you need to be on sick leave, hand him the note.

you might be surprised, maybe he won't ask you why you need the sick time.

Since it is none of his business anyways, or his legal right to ask, i would say something like "this a personal medical problem", something like that. That should be it, end of sentence.

Obviously don't say - hmmmm you have no right to ask me that, doesn't look too good.

gallbladder! excellent idea. unless of course i have to have my gallbladder out later. that would atleast let me use my sick leave instead of vacation leave.

However, i think the only filter that would work for my boss is duct tape

I am scheduled for my surgery on July 31st but I plan to take 2 weeks so 10 days as well. I also work at a desk, I was told that I could actually go back to work in a week if I felt up to it. I simply may be tired. I plan to take both weeks off and hope for the best. Good luck with your surgery. I know you are excited.

HHHmmmm, I havent told my boss why I am going to be out but I think I probably can. He is a good guy, but I just havent spread the news around the office yet.

Funny though.....do you think telling him you had your gall bladder out would be believable when you start dropping those pounds before his eyes? Maybe he is the kind of guy that wont even notice though, I know there are plenty of those too.

I also took my vacation time to do the surgery. As they say, it's different for everyone but in my case I have surgery on Monday June 25, 2012 and I came back to work on July 3, 2012. So I took 6 days off of work. My stomack muscles were still a bit sore but I made it though the days no problem. I am now 15 days post op and I pretty much feel back to normal.

Thet toughest thing for me was grocery shopping (pushing a half full cart uses your stomach muscles more than you'd think and carrying groceries up the stairs was tough too). My reccommendation is to stock up before the surgery,

I was the same as KittyfromBC. The only reason I didn't go back on July 2 was because I got my drain out that day and didn't want to go to work with that in. My boss (who was sleeved in April) said if I needed to work half days that first week I came back we could work that out because he had to due to being so tired in the afternoons. I didn't have any problems with that though.

You would think it would - but he HAS NO FILTER. For example, (hes an attorney) when we are doing Will executions there is a pregnancy clause. He has mentioned numerous times to female clients he has removed the pregnancy clause. While 90% is the age of the woman, you never know how that woman may take it. couldn't have children, couldn't have more children, lost a child, lost a pregnancy, wanted more but hubby didn't, etc. etc. Is it really necessary? Just leave the clause in there. What does it hurt?
