Most Humiliating Fat Moment

Recommended Posts

I had to get off a roller coaster the other day. I'd ridden dang rides all day long, and then the child of the couple we were with wanted to do some spinny teacup-like ride. I'm the designated "spinny" ride person, the other mom is the designated "droppy" ride person. So I take her son over, wait in line, get in, and the dang belt is like 1" from being able to be closed. The attendant comes over and asks if my belt is on (he's asking everyone to show him). I was like, "I don't supposed this is close enough?" Nope, I had to get off. Then the kid threw a fit and started drawing even more attention. The attendant comes over with the measuring stick and ends up the kid was tall enough to ride it alone. But my oh my, we had drawn quite the crowd by that time.

Embarrassing? A bit, but really not overly. People know I'm fat. There are lots of things they don't know, that would be much more embarrassing. So I guess it's all relative. I would have preferred it not happen, but I didn't cringe as I had to walk off the ride. *shrug*

What I think would be the most humliaiting thing, we're blessedly unconscious for -- our fat pre-op bodies being naked & hefted by others onto the operating table. I don't even want to think about how many people it took to move me in 2006 when I had my lapband (that was my heighest weight ever - 380 - 400 lbs).

Aaack!! I didn't even think about this! That is now my most humiliating moment...thank goodness I was asleep.

Well' date=' the conception is that you can't DO anything about race and gender, so you have to accept people for what they are. Ditto with physical handicaps, birth defects, mental issues, etc. 35 years ago autistic kids were sent off to group homes, now they have parades for them!

Society is just starting to accept that sexual orientation may just not be someone's choice, so yeah -- we are starting to accept gay people now too.

But fatties? Sure it may be a genetic tendency but calories in < calories out. It's not rocket science. Get off the couch! Stop going to McD!! It's OK to bug us because we're doing it to ourselves.[/quote']

Did I read this right? And for the record, i have a mentally ill autistic child, no parades, just a lot of suffering. Who are you?

Try reading it with the voice of extreme sarcasm.

I always wondered how I would handle having a special needs kid. My cousin's boy is autistic and I'm not sure I could step up like she did/does. She's amazing.

I have several stories

My mother cooks a lot for her church so when I was twelve during her pastor's appreciation dinner, a elderly man told me how I should stop eating all together, I cried in my mother's car and refused to go back in to the church.

When I was 14 I was over my Dad's house for Christmas, when my Grandpa told my family loudly how I need to step back from the dinner table once in a while.

In Catholic school I was bullied for being fat, but the ringleader was bigger then me and would usually "you're as big as a desk and next year you will be as big as two". She would always try and get me into trouble at school, eventually I got expelled form the school and blamed for something I didn't do.

I broke a desk in middle school and everyone laughed including the teacher.

Looking back on my Catholic School experience I relished that she was also hurting and she took that pain out on someone weaker.

It is not that people are "bugging us". They are outright hateful and mean. There is no excuse to treat others that way.

Yesterday, I was eating an ice cream cone while driving home, and a group of youn adults drove by. They took on look at me, started laughing, and pressed on their noses like a pig making Oinking sounds. I felt so sad, humiliated. I didn't show that it bothered me, but I cried on the wy home. I cannot wait to get this surgery so this doesn't happen anymore.

I really only feel bad when I see people from high school. I was really athletic, a former cheerleader, on the drill team, etc. anything that involved a cute smile and a short skirt, I did it. Now, I avoid going out in public when I go back to my home town. If I see someone, I try to hide, or I'm constantly looking over my shoulder. Pathetic, I know. Three years ago, we had a class reunion and I lost 111 pounds just to go to it. I still wasn't the size that I was in high school, but neither was anyone else. Needless to say, I gained that 111 + 10 more, before going to see a bariatric surgeon. I just can't do it on my own.

I think that was the point, that is how other people who are mean to fat people think. They think that WLS is for lazy fatties. :(

Mine was a few a years ago, I went to Home Depot to buy paint. It was a light yellow color and it was called something cotton candy (cant remember the exact name) and the lady mixing my paint said "Congratulations!!!! When are you do?". She assume that paint was for a nursery or something SMH! My husband who at that time was only my boyfriend was there with me and I was soo embarrased. I told her "nop, im just FAT". That lady wanted to die right then and there...I could tell.

I was trying on clothes in a store one day with my mom, she was talking to the girl who worked there and when I asked for help finding a size she asked how far along I was. I was 12 at the time :/

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
