My surgeon is in the camp of ~~~it wont stretch your tummy and its ok in moderation (diet only) after X weeks depending on how you are healing. I have been drinking diet coke since 6 weeks. I always pour it over ice to release some of the fizz in it. Sadly and weirdly' date=' it is the ONLY thing I have found that does not give me raging heartburn/reflux. Even plain Water gives me heartburn. But always do what YOUR dr says![/quote']

Have you tried diet rite? My body want Water, water, water. Yesterday I had G2 it was not bad. It give me a boost of energy. I was told by my doctor ...I could never have sodas ever in life. I would have 2 wait 2 chew gum. I still chew sugar free gum.
Sincerely
Z

I have been told no soda and I love diet coke. Do you guys get Soda Stream in America? If so, I bought the diet coke Syrup that you buy for the soda stream and mix it with Water. Hey presto, completely flat diet coke.

I've been wondering if that would work! We have Soda Stream here so I may consider that!

What about carbonated Water like soda water or Voss water? I am not one for soda, I haven't been for years. But I do like voss water on occasion and it's just basically a carbonated flavorless water.

My Dr said to mix it a bit and get it a bit flat prior to drinking. She never said I could not have it.

My surgeon said I can have soda as long as it's sugar free and diet. He said flat is best but can try with carbonation and see how I handle it. No I have not it, I love the strawberry lemonade Crystal light and teja unsweetened ice tea

I accidentally drank some coke at about 3 1/2 months out. I thought it was tea. That was the worst I have felt since having the surgery. I hope that never happens again.

I was told no soda because the chemicals make you hungry, but that carbonated Water is okay as your sleeve will stay the same

I have had one soda a day for awhile now. I take tiny sips and always drink from a cup. It helps take some of the carbonation out. I have not had any problems and i have been loving my diet cream soda :)

I was told to put a little soda in a snack size zip lock bag and put it in your pocket. Your new stomach is the size of a snack size bag and you can see what the soda does to the bag and then decided if you want to put that into your body. Plus, any soda is a lot of calories, even diet soda that says no calories is full of stuff that once it hits your body turns into calories. On average a diet soda drinker gains 10 pounds a year instead of losing weight. Water is best and if you need some flavor crystal light works.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed. I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair. Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end. That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
