I've had several surgeries and the thought of someone cutting the majority of my stomach out scared me too. However, after much research I came to the conclusion that this surgery was best for me. I'm now 4 weeks postop and have no regrets except that I should have done this years ago.

What to expect postop? That really varies from person to person. My first memory was waking up severe pain with my back arched and begging for pain meds. This may not be your experience. If you want to read about my journey, check out my blog. I started it pretty much when I decided to have surgery. My preop diet started May 21st or 22nd and my surgery was on June 5th. That gives you some starting points if you are interested in my experiences. Oh, and if you view it from a laptop or desktop, I have lots of information on the right side bar for people in the early stages of their journey.

Best of luck to you in your journey.

Good luck to you

It only took my insurance a week to approve. Don't hesitate to call after the week to check the status either.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
