Hello everyone! I am so glad I found this support group to help me get through this change in my life. Today I was 5 days post op and it wasn't a very good day, I had lots of nausea. I'm still on my 2 weeks liquids which I'm doing but they want you to do 60oz of Water and 60oz of Protein Shake and I'm not anywhere near that yet. I'm sipping as much as I can but my mouth still feels dry all the time. I know it will get easier but just the wait of it and when is killing me. If you have any suggestions or tips I'm all ears! Thanks everyone! Good luck to all and let me know if I can be of any help. I will be covering this support group in my prayers!

I'm also 5 dpo and I finally said enough. I bought the lemon Powerade and sipped on it all day. I feel hydrated and full. I don't feel weak or tired. Now I just have to battle through this gas pain

One thing I did different today was I had a few sips of chicken broth and yummy! I did suffer with gas pains afterwards though but I couldn't help myself.

Hi I'm still pre op but in my class we learned that all Protein Drinks count as part of the 68oz of liquid you need to take it. I hope this helps.

Your mouth feels dry because you are in ketoisis. HORRID bad breath will follow. Good news - you are in a great stage for losing!

Try sugar free gatorade or poweraide to keep hydrated. Protein count is second to hydration at this early stage. Just keep sipping. Have you tried clear protien - I used Isopure 40gm Apple Melon at GNC. Buy one bottle only as your taste buds change.

Each day will bring new changes. Be patient learning your new sleeve. Hugs.

I'm POD 6 today. I had those problems the day of my surgery & day 1PO. Once I was allowed to start drinking after leak test came back fine it got better. Day 2 I struggled to drink 28oz of Isopure zero. But each day has gotten better. Walking does help with the gas pains. Don't force yourself to burp cos you might barf but if you feel like burping let it out. My nurse also suggested gas-x chewable. I used those the first 2 days home and no longer having to use them. Another way I help myself with fluids is to get my isopure in one cup, another cup of ice Water and I might do another cup of hot herbal tea or cold propel zero. I just take little sips and alternate through the diff drinks I've set out for myself until they're gone.

I lathered my lips and surrounding skin with chapstick and it really helped the dryness. Try some chewable gas x cherry flavored too. Right now count your Protein Shake as your 60 oz. of liquids, not in additon to. As for the nausea, your doctor should precribe something for you if it is that bad. Luckily I never had any! Good luck. It will get better soon!

hey! im 6months & 2wks post op. i felt just as u did. if u bwgin feeling dehydrated, drink some gatorade. at first, itll be impossible to get in all the necessary liquid & Protein but u will eventually.

if it makes u feel any better, soon, all that u are going thru will be a distant memory & will seem like a walk in the park! i used to drink about 20-30oz of Water a day. in fact, i still do & my blood work shows that im perfectly hydrated. just keep sipping. it sounds so rehersed and ppl always say it but "it will get better" lol

Thanks so much everyone! I really appreciate all the advice and use it as I can! Please keep it coming! I don't know how I would have got through this change without finding this support group because it has helped me more than I can express! Yesterday I was mentally getting drained and once I got on here and read different things it helped 100%! Thank the Lord for VST!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
