What is c-diff?

C-diff is a bacterial infection that originates in the gut. People don't usually know that they have it until they are given antibiotics, and immediately start having diarrhea. Most common in long term care facilities, but it does occur in hospitals too. The most important thing to remember about it is that using waterless hand sanitizer will not be effective in preventing the spread of it, you have to wash your hands with soap and Water to prevent the spread, so make sure to tell your health care providers to WASH THEIR HANDS.

I don't recall hearing anything about it while I was in the hospital so I will say no for me.

I got it once. Not pretty when you are bed ridden in ICU. The most painful stomach gurgling and cramping you could possibly imagine. Didn't get it during sleeve op and stay. I was worried because once you get it you are more likely to get it again.

C diff happens when you take antibiotics that kill off the natural bacteria in your gut and the C diff bacteria flourishes. If you have had it that long, you are probably severely dehydrated and feeling miserable. Your doctor should be able to treat you to get this stopped. Any doctor that diagnosed you with C diff should have treated you and warned you about the possibility of contagion. Please get your diarrhea checked out again. All you need is a simple stool test. Good luck. Kathe

I am so sorry you are going through this; my father had C-diff for the last 6 months of his life. It was a nightmare; I was reluctant to post because I didn't want to think about it. He died 3 years ago and they have made some progress in treating this awful illness. They kept giving my dad stronger and stronger antibiotics. Eventually the combination of the recurrent disease and the massive drugs damaged his intestines so badly he had to have an illeostomy.

Scary part over. Apparently now they can treat this with a kind of reverse colonoscopy... a s*** transplant. A donor of fecal material, usually a family or some other close person, gives the necessary material and the doctors literally put it back in the patient. I don't know if it still considered experimental, but it would be worth looking into. Look up fecal transplant.

All the best of luck to you.

Robbie

Robbie I am sorry to hear about your dad. Thank you for sharing your story with me.

Well all my tests are negative so now my dr says it's IBS. I am not sure why since I never had IBS before. The symtoms are pretty much the the same. So I am so frustrated because I can't go anywhere with out fear of an episode. Not sure I would have gotten the sleeve had I known I would develop IBS. No clue where to go from here. On so many meds and nothing is helping.

I would say to a specialist? Ibs diagnosis post sleeve when no symptoms prior?

I had my gallbladder out with sleeve and I am suffering with sudden onset fast bowel... Like no warning must toilet right now. Gurgling and pain in lower intestine, I think it is GB related.

Don't give up on your sleeve, demand better answers.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
