Help Me Find A Protein Supplement That I Like!

Recommended Posts

The premier shakes are really good. I have tried both choc and vanilla. The choc taste better to me.

I do not like the premiere shakes - I have only tried vanilla though, and it took almost 2 hours to drink it.

I have had a hard time finding a shake that I like. The other day I was riding around a town a couple towns away and saw a complete nutrition store. I decided to check it out. I told the guy what I was looking for and he led me to some huge Protein powder bottles. I asked if they had any little packets I could buy before I bought this huge thing and didn't like it.

He said I could try some in the store, or he could send me home with a couple samples. I opted for the take home samples. He gave me two full size scoop samples to take home, he put them in really nice reusable cups with lids.

He also said that he prefers his to be made the night before and kept in the fridge. I went home and gave it a try. Made it the night before. He gave me a sample of "Reclaim Smart Smoothies" one in chocolate mint and the other mocachino (sp?) latte. I'm not a coffee fan so I tried this first. OMG it was so good. No aftertaste at all! Really did taste good with not a strong coffee taste at all. I was thrilled, so tried the chocolate mint the next day. Even better!!! So good!

I know there are other Protein drinks out there that have much more Protein (this had 20 grams plus the 8 from my milk), but I can't and don't enjoy the other ones. But these are by far the best I have had - they are also expensive, 39.99 for a 1.5 pound container, but they have coupons online for 10 off 40.

Next time I go in I'm going to try some non-chocolate ones.

The yogurt one sounds good, but, being only 6 weeks post op, I couldn't eat a cup of anything if I tried. lol

Yes, at six weeks, I used 1/2 cup yogurt. It took about 45 minutes to get it down.

I can't stomach even the thought of any dessert flavored Protein. And the bubbles from the unflavored are just as bad. I'm just picking high protein foods to get to my goal protein. I really wish I could find something i could tolerate. Right now homemade frappuchinos are my morning Protein Shake.< /p>

The bad breath could be a side-effect from the higher Protein diet (ketosis). I have also been struggling with getting in enough Protein. I have tried Syntrax, Isopure, Premier, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, Chike, GoTo Lean Body and a few others. I am just starting the puréed and can only get 2 tablespoons down.

What is working for me right now is Braum's fat-free milk (they pull Water out & add extra dry milk) which gives it 13 grams of protein in 8 ounces; add unflavored Isopure powder (28 grams protein) & whatever flavor I want. sugar-free puddings, SF Jello, Torani syrups, etc. plus I mix & let sit in the frig overnight or at least 2 hours. Good luck!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
