I'm 6 days post sleeve and so far no regrets. I love to eat...but that's what got me to weight I am now. I'm not anticipating when i get to eat again and not being able to eat as much as I use to, I'm sure its not going to be easy. But I'm just focusing on being in shape, healthy and having enough energy to run around with my 4 year old.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm scheduled for sometime in August too and have the same fear. I don't want to have the surgery then after say to myself "why couldn't I just eat less and do it the natural way". There are so many not so good stories on this site and that scares me a lot!! Other than being 90 pounds over weight, I'm healthy. I don't want to acquire problems from the surgery. I originally thought I would have the surgery, I would heal, eat less, lose weight, and have a great new life. From what I'm reading, it's like a battle to be normal again and that scares me!!!! I'm really on the fence. I was really gung how before I joined this site. Now, not so much. I don't know what to do,

This was me, too. I woke up from surgery really, really angry with myself for not losing the weight "the natural way." Then I realized that the reason I had the surgery wasn't JUST to lose the weight, but to keep it off, and if I could have, I would have. I was mad for a couple of days and then realized that it was a done deal, I needed to learn how to adapt to it, and that was that.

After every big change, there's a period of accommodation in which we have to find "the new normal." It will not be the same as before--you'll be a different size, have different priorities, have more energy--so if you think of it as an adventure to find "the new you" and "your new/improved life," that will end up being closer to what actually happens. It has definitely turned out that way for both me and my husband (also a sleever). Yes, it's challenging to try to imagine what it will be like--and let me tell you, you can't. It's so radically different that it's not possible to feel it ahead of time, no matter how good you are at imagining things. But it's BETTER different, not worse. :-)

I had my surgery 24 days ago and I know I did the right thing. I could not lose the weight and keep it off. I have already lost 16 pounds. I am looking forward to having more foods and never regain.

i am 2 weeks post op and i think the only regret i have doing the sleeve is the damn liquid diets! lol

other than that, i do not regret this at all and of course, i wish i would have done this 10 yrs ago!

if you never had surgery before, it is normal to think "what if i dont wake up..." but you will. i am sure you will be in good hands with your dr and nurses. they train for and practice this all the time.

I had the same feelings of not waking up or some other complication during surgery. I think it is normal and I also thought why do I need to do this and being able to do this on my own. Having been overweight all my life and tried every diet only to regain the weight plus some, I know this is the best option for me.

Fortunately, I have had a great post op recovery with very little pain. I feel good and I will be one month sleeved in two days. I have lost about 20 pounds. But it is not easy. At this point, I miss crunchy food. Being on liquids/purees for 5 weeks is hard and yes, it is tempting to eat something that is not allowed yet. You have to just look to future and know that all foods will be allowed if you are able to tolerate them. I now know this is the tool that will help me win the battle and eat as I should have been doing for year before the sleep apnea, high cholesterol and triglycerides. I am on the road to better health and active lifestyle.

Good luck and much success to you.

I have a little different scenario going on then what I have read that I would like to share with you. I am scheduled for VGS for 10/9 and I am really nervous too. This time last year I had the lap band surgery done and wasn't really nervous at all figuring it is reversable so if it doesn't work I can go to the next step. Of course thinking all would be fine and it was in that I did not have any complications from the surgery BUT.....

I did lose about 60 lbs but about 4 mos ago I started to have issues with the band getting tight on me and was constantly trowing up because food would get stuck. The pain was so uncomfortable and eating became a chore rather than pleasure as it used to be.

Well, I had to have all the Fluid removed and once that was done all my issues were gone! Except of course the issue that started the whole journey. It took me 10 months to lose 60 lbs and now, 2 months later after having the band unfilled, I have gained 20 POUNDS already!!! As scared as I am to have the VGS surgery because of the natural fear of dying we all seem to have, I know I need the help. We all have it in us to lose weight and excercise but for how long? Why can't we stick to doing that for life? I wish I knew and I wish I had it in me to do it that way but I have tried and tried but I keep ending up FATTER than before.

As I said, I too am scared but I so want to live a happy life without the constant burdeon of my weight hanging over my head. If I don't get the weight off once and for all, I will end up like my other family members...DEAD from heart disease and diabetic complications. They truly suffered....my dad died at 65 and my two brothers at 59 & 56. Other siblings are still alive but they two have heart issues. I am the baby of the family and I am watching my future if I don't lose the weight once and for all.

You will be fine....I am praying for you. Stay strong and focus on the wonderful, fat free life that lies ahead.

God Bless!

I'm 3 months out and - while I am positive about the surgery because of the results - I still have my moments. I miss eating a "normal" meal the most' date=' especially after taking a couple of bites of an amazing dish and having to stop eating because I'm already full. Also, I have osteoarthritis and I cannot take any NSAID anti-inflammatories any more, such as aspirin or Ibuprofen, so I'm stuck with pain pills or steroids. Things I don't miss? The 105 pounds of fat I've lost and the huge fat clothes that I've thrown away because I know they'll never be needed again. Is it worth it? All things considered, I think it is and I would probably do it again. Is it easy? No. I have to dig down deep and pull myself out of the doldrums several times a week. You are undergoing major surgery (with a history of minimal complications and a very low mortality rate) and facing a lifetime commitment. Can you be 100% sure you're doing the right thing without hesitation before surgery? Probably not, and I think that is very common and also very normal. Everybody's mileage varies and only you can do what you feel is best for yourself. I think, in the long run, that this is a very positive step towards an exciting, new life as a "normal" person. Best of luck![/quote']

Please search out another doctor. That's just not true about NSAID's and arthritis meds. I started back on Celebrex the day after surgery. There are other protocols that you can be on. Do a search on here to get others peoples stories. There's no need for you to be suffering and letting the arthritis take over! I've got OA, OP, and RA, so I do know what you are going through and I'm sure you hurt!

Congrats on your weight loss!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
