Anyone Else Have To Do 2 Weeks of Liquid Pre-Op???

Recommended Posts

I personally looked at each Protein Shake I had to drink as a brick in the road on my way to weight loss. I made sure my one meal of the day was worth the wait. I also found that I didn't focus on food all day long. I could actually concentrate on other things in my day. Anyway, good luck with your liquid diet and with your surgery also.

Congrats you are almost banded!!!

There are quite a few people here who had to do the 2 wk liquid diet thing. I did not but had to lose 10% of my weight before surgery so I ended up doing it anyway. It is hard no joke but the hardest part is the first 2-3 days. Mix up the liquids. I am not a big sweet eater and can only take so much chocolate so I had lots of different broths and added some low sodium soy sauce to some things-ideas like that. Make sure you get enough Protein because I promise you the protein will diminish the hunger. I know you'll get lots of great advice and have lots of company here. Good luck

The only thing that helped me was that my doc said I could have 1 shake for bkfst, luch, and dinner along with a salad for lunch and dinner. It really helped to have something to CHEW! The dressing had to be like a vinegar--but I hate salad dressings so I just ate it plain. Good luck---it really will be over before you know it!!!

I had to do 3 weeks!!!!!!!! I was alowed to eat a slice of turkey and cheese rolled together if i needed to chew. I ended up doing South beach at night and liquids during the day. I still lost 21lbs but did all liquids 4 days prior to surgey. I got banded today so I have another 2 weeks of liquids to go.................... Just take it one day at a time.

I also had to do 2 weeks of pre-op liquid dieting. For the most part, I did really great. There were 2 days when I was so weak and could barely talk that I ate a can of sardines...which has 15 grams of Protein, the same as the shakes I was drinking. During that period I lost about 15lbs, also need to shrink my liver.

You can do it. Just keep looking for different things with lots of Protein to drink. Also near the end, I started sipping egg drop Soup broth.

Now I'm 2 days post-op (in lots of gas pain) and I'm still on a liquid diet for 2 more weeks.

Hang in there! You're close now.

I had to do mine for 2 1/2 weeks. After the first couple of days, it did get easier. Additionally, stepping on the scale and seeing the weight literally drop off helped make it easier too. Keep in mind your goal and reward for following the pre-op diet. If you find you are going a bit crazy, and desperate for something, check with your doctor first. A little over a week into mine, I felt like I needed something. My doctor allowed me to have one small broiled chicken breast that night only. I truly thought I had died and gone to heaven.

Congratulations on your decision to get the band.

I am 6 days post op, and did three weeks of pre-op liquids because my surgery got postponed one week. I was allowed two VERY small healthy meals a day, so it's not as restrictive as yours. Here's some things I found helped. Run all my suggestions by your doctor.

Clear Liquids

Isopure Protein Water. Good flavors, no carbs or sugar, and a whopping 40 grams of Protein per 20 oz bottle. Several good flavors, but Ice Orange was the best.

Top Ramen flavor packets. Way better than broth. As long as you don't mind the msg, it's great.

Tropical sugar free popcicles. Better than the regular flavors. They are great, and were my staple. Filling, and delicious.

sugar free Jello. These didn't end up being as good as I hoped, but they are good enough for a change of pace.

FULL LIQUIDS

I graduated to full liquids. Find out from your doc whether you get Clear Liquids or full liquids. My full liquid diet post surgery included pudding, yogurt, cream Soups, and cream of wheat. I found some great stuff in this category that I've really enjoyed this week. The biggest surprise was the gourmet Soups in a box from Campbells. Portabello mushroom Soup was amazing, and better than a lot of restaurants.

Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me with more questions!

Thanks for all the great support and advice everyone! Day one of the liquid pre-op diet has officially ended! I was starving, head pounding (TOM is coming too) and I really wanted to eat something, but didn't. Let me tell you, sugar-free Jello and chicken broth never tasted so damn good! Tomorrow I will buy boxes of sugar-free ice pops and some diet peach snapple. I can only have clear liquids, not full liquids. I really wanted to eat a peach today, really really bad, and I never crave fruit, so you now how hungry I was. I also wanted to eat the steamed broccoli I made for my daughter, but refrained from that also, although I know it wouldn't have hurt me too much. I hope I can do this for 13 more days. I am keeping my goal in mind and trying to stay focused. If I didn't have this pounding headache, I could deal with the hunger. Oh, well. At least when banding day comes, I will be begging them to get it on me, instead of being scared, just to end this suffering. I just can't believe I will be on clear liquids for the next month. Hey, if it's the worst thing I ever have to endure, I shall consider myself extremely fortunate! I am so curious to see how much weight I drop during this phase. Imagine if I don't lose any??? I'm guessing 10lbs, anything more would be gravy.

I'm in the middle of the 2-week pre-op diet right now. Surgery is Tuesday. I AM DYING!!!! This week I am only allowed to have 4 Protein Shakes a day. I wrote in another post that I have actually been dreaming about french fries, no joke. My saliva glands are working overtime. I can't speak to someone if they talk about real food. lol.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
