Anyone want to talk about the Lap-Band?

Recommended Posts

I will leave the high school antics to children.

Congrats on your success. I see that you have a date for your TT. Where are you having it done, and if you don't mind me asking.....how much?

Me too!!

Please let us know how your Tummy Tuck goes. I am 99% sure I will need one once I get my weight off. I have been reading as many posts as I can on it and watching all the shows on Discovery Health Channel to help me decide if I am brave enough to do it.

YEAH ! There are a few of us who want to talk about THE BAND. YEAH !

Thanks guys ! I worked so hard the first six months, and now I'm slacking. It is so hard to stay on track. It is taking me another 6 months just to lose 10 pounds. GEEEEEZ

I have scheduled a TT. My belly just hangs and it is so unappealing. The final quote I got was $6621. That's everthing. Now I am just waiting to see if insurance will pay. If not, I am still scheduled and will find a way to pay.

How is everyone else doing????

Wha?? We are supposed to talk about the Lap-band?? I'm game. Having some issues here myself. Found out today I may have a leaky port. Dammit!

I have been very interested in all the threads about TT and always check it out on Discovery Health. I'm afraid I might be headed for one and the thought scares me! I'm a chicken and those are some big scars!

Yikes how do you get a leaky one? Is it from fills? Manufacturer Defect?

Unless it becomes medically necessary for me or I win the lottery, I won't be having a TT...but you know, they are quite good at stitching...so even though they look bad in the beginning, they usually come out nice. I always said if i had to have something done i want Dr 90210 to do it, but I don't think that would ever happen I am not a glamour queen with bleach blonde hair...lol!

At one of my group meetings they had a plastic surgeon who talks about all the different surgeries they can do to us. I dont think I have enough guts (excuse the pun) for that. although I must say the after pictures were just incredible. Im afraid I am too chicken for it myself. I will just have to stay away from a big breeze so I dont flap away..

Can I join? I am so ready for band talk. OK, I'm joining.

I had my first fill on Fri and I've been doing AWESOME. I love restriction. I feel so empowered now. This band may or not last forever, but I sure am enjoying it now. Don't know if this is normal or not, but I've lost 6 lbs since Fri. I've been on liquids and I attribute the weight loss to that. I expect the weight loss to level off after I start on real food on Wed.

Yay!! Lap Band talk...oh good that's why I joined here in the first place. I'll be happy when I lose enough weight to even consider a Tummy Tuck. I could use a pair lifted too while they're at it.

DL I certainly hope you do not have a leaky port, but if you do, I hope that getting it fixed goes well.

I am one that looks forward to getting the plastic surgery. I want a total body lift done, and be as tight as barbie LOL I don'tmind the scars. for me they fade quickly, so bring on the cutters!! I know for 100% i will have a bad apron to deal with. I already have one. i hope that i will not need it on my arms, but i might.

Well I had fill #2 today and my port is in the process of flipping. For my first fill it was level but today it was clearly standing on edge. They were able to manipulate it and get 2cc in but I won't be at all surprised when I go for my next fill if it is flipped on over. I never had any pain like a stitch pulling out. Never bumped it or anything. Oh well if this is the worst that happens I am doing okay.

I found out today that the nutrionist in my Dr's office changed from what I saw that it was some time back. I cant have chicken of anysort for 3 more weeks. I can have fish in 2. So what has been added on to my diet (just coming off liquids from surgery 8-15)

EGGS!

English muffins!

String cheese

eggs and muffins, isnt this the crap that a BUNCH of bandsters have problems with??!?!!

I want to chew, but i am terrified!

;) Oh how I love to talk about the band!

3Loves (Michelle) congrats on the fill and 6 lbs that is great!

Drewslove. Sorry to hear about leaky port. Hope they find it not leaking! it would be hard to have to go back in again.

An aaamom Good luck with the PS. I know I will be head there too. I have great Bat wings! on my arms, elephant ears! on my thighs, and a tummy flap that could take out a person should It hit them. But with all this, I have never been happier in my life than I am now! I have had great success with the band. This past few days I have had a few PB's but I think its me and eating to fast. Need to slow down and focus on what I'm doing. AND my water! have had a hard time the past few weeks to get it in. But I will do it. I have been very lucky that since March 2006 I have not had a weight gain. I had one week of holding the same, which is OK, but I can't believe I could of done this! In the past maybe 12 weeks into a diet and I would give up! NOT now! I hope others are enjoying theirs as much as I am. I love the band!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
