Did Anyone Have "acid Hunger" Start Later?

Recommended Posts

So I know that acid can mimic hunger and it seems a lot of people have this early out. I am three months out and just began having this super hungry feeling the past three days. I haven't exercised more or done anything differently and am wondering if it could be acid.

I haven't had heartburn or reflux at all.

Has anyone had this type of hunger start out a little later? Versus the seemingly common right after surgery type of "acid hunger".

If so, what kind of PPI did you take?

I take Rx pantoprazole because of med interactions. Have your doc recommend something. And, yes, I didn't start taking the acid reducer until 3 months out. It made a ton of difference in my hungry feelings. :)

Hi,just pas 3 months and I also am experiencing a stomach "hunger" now.I am on Nexium though. Also some pain when eating.

I am wondering if it isnt just hunger and a matter of us having to get use to that feeling again?Just cant figure this out and I am eating a lot of sugarfree popcicles to try and keep this feeling at bay!

What I have found with acid though is you will either get a funny taste in your mouth or a white coating on your tongue or some slight abdominal discomfort if you dont experience heartburn or reflux. But then I see talk of silent acid, which I have never experienced.

Another late refluxer here.

I have had it intermittently since surgery, however the last few months have gotten worse. I generally have a burning throat, lump in throat and tingly/numb tongue.

My surgeon has me trying a number of different medication cocktails to try deal with it. He said that it is not common for people to still have it this far out (9 months). If this latest cocktail doesnt work he will do an endoscopy to see whats happening.

You just have to keep the conversation up with your surgeon.

I try to drink through the symptoms, or have a cracker to dimb the burning..rather than constantly eatting, when I am not hungry.

Thanks everyone! It is nice to know that this can start out later and I am not just going crazy!

I haven't had any symptoms like that at all Desertmom, the pain would worry me.

I will have to talk to my doc about it!

It could definitely be acid hunger! I still get this from time to time at 9 months out. I don't take a PPI on a regular basis so once in awhile this pops up as a reminder to me to take one.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
